Figured I'd post this in this thread as I found this interesting. Fast forward to 1:50 which is where Bret starts talking about how Punk is paying homage to him but also talks about how it's kind of symbolic considering how similar Punk's storyline situation is similar with Bret's storyline situation in 97 (with obvious differences) which the more I think about it the more it makes sense and find it very cool.

Punk is doin the Bret Hart route, where he thinks the champion should be respected and should be the focal point of the company.

Tweener, heel, face.......All of those are outdated concepts. Get out of the 90s and join the 21st century. People are going to cheer or hate anyone they want, so the lines of black and white have turned grey.

That's why the audio guys play boos over the PA when the Miz comes out? How about the prerecorded cheers for
John Cena? (CM Punk lampshaded that when King asked him if he's ever heard an ovation like that? Punk responds,
"Yeah, I heard one just like it when I came out." I laughed my ass off at that, because anyone who's ever been to a
live show knows exactly what he meant.) There are still people that you're supposed to cheer and boo, and they do
their damnedest to herd the crowd to follow along, so saying the face/heel way is gone, is just...I'll leave it at that.

Also, remaining on topic since I tend to drift, They quit using Punk as a tweener weeks ago. He's gone full blown heel
at this point. It's just that the fans continue to cheer him in spite of that.

Canned crowd heat is very obvious.

You can pretend to act like this is 1994 and we need a bad guy vs good guy mentality because you think using outdated terms means you are an insider.

You do know most people in the business don't even talk like that anymore. The truth is out there..........

No, we don't need it (I'd rather see it gone myself), but the fact is they still use it.

Canned heat is used more for making it look like the crowd is hotter than they are, the fact is that people don't pop for things like they used too. Look at old matches from the 90s, the crowds were hot for everything, the 80s were even better than that.

certain market places seem to sit on their hands during WWE shows, you go to wrestling hotbeds still and they show you what a crowd should be.

And ultimately, they use Jerry Lawler as the victim to turn CM Punk "heel." I'm trying to decide if they intentionally picked Lawler because he's someone the internet gives no shits about, so to us internet geeks CM Punk would still be a face. Or something.

In before the usual Psych ramble on Lawler being over more than 95% of the roster and all that other shit.

Psych...?
