The Original Clock Tower Is Getting Remastered for Modern Consoles - IGN

At a presentation event held by Limited Run Games, the company unveiled that a remaster of the original Clock Tower is currently in development with a release slated for early next year.

In an LRG3 presentation event held by Limited Run Games today, the company confirmed that a remaster was in the works and development is a collaboration effort between Capcom, Sunsoft, WayForward, and Limited Run. This remaster also marks the first time the original Clock Tower game will see an official release outside of Japan, which up until this point only had fan translations.

"Starting with River City Girls Zero, we've been bringing these Japanese-only releases to a Western audience," WayForward CEO and Founder Voldi Way said in the announcement video.

Clock Tower was originally released in 1995 and is not to be confused with the PlayStation 1 game Clock Tower released in 1996. The franchise only spawned four games, with the most recent release, Clock Tower 3, launching over two decades ago on the PlayStation 2, with the series remaining dormant until today's announcement.

Clock Tower remastered will launch on PC (via Steam), PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch early next year.

I'm so beyond happy to finally see my favorite game of all time getting this remaster, for so many reasons. One is that it's the first time Clock Tower will see a Western release in 28 years, and another is that it'll be on a bunch of consoles, so literally, everyone can play it now if they want to. Finally, the reason I'm most excited is that it means the Clock Tower series is no longer dead and buried; I have so much optimism that Sunsoft and Capcom will work on the series again if First Fear sells like I want and need it to.

That Collector's edition looks nice. I always wanted to get the RE game collector's editions but I knew it would just be stuff that ultimately gathered dust so i get the games digital to save space.

I've personally never played any of the Clock Tower games but will definitely get this when it comes out.

I'm legit thinking of splurging on that collector's edition.

My biggest fear though is LRG botching the launch and causing it to not sell well. I would very much like the game to sell extremely well, enough to help bring a resurgence to the series.

The fact that LIMITED run games is releasing the physical version tells me it wont sell well.

So, a few observations from the VOD I saw.

There will be two modes for Clock Tower: Original and Rewind mode.

Original is a straight port of the 1995 SNES game, with warts and all. It's gonna be about what I expect for this game.

Rewind Mode is super interesting though, in that it's a souped up version of Clock Tower Deluxe, with bug fixes and other quality of life improvements. Jennifer heals faster, has the ability to run up and down steps (which was missing from the original game), and there are extra items and hiding spots added into the game that was originally in the code but never implemented. Rooms and events from the PlayStation 1 version of Clock Tower have also been added. Additionally, Scissorman is much scarier now. He will randomly appear (which he doesn't in the original game), follow players from room to room rather than teleport, and can go up and down steps.

Not to mention all the artwork, new intro, and other features, this is going to be *the* definitive version of Clock Tower.
