After spending their entire careers in the lightweight division, Clay Guida (29-13) and Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) now look to regenerate themselves as featherweights. Both fighters made the call this year to drop down to a featherweight. Guida recently expressed interest in fighting Edgar."That would be a great match up," said Guida on Yahoo! Sports. "I've got a great deal of respect for Frankie and this fight has been a long time coming…[We are] both down here at 145 now and I'm going to make my mark in the division right out of the gate."

Guida made the decision to drop down a weight class after losing his last two fights. The most recent was in June of this year against Gray Maynard (11-1-1-1 NC) in a fight where many criticized Guida for his lack of offense.

Edgar is coming off back-to-back loses to Ben Henderson (17-2), who defeated him for the lightweight championship and in the subsequent rematch. Edgar was supposed to fight for the featherweight title at UFC 153, but the champion was injured and the fight was scratched.

"I fixed a lot of things and believe that I'll only continue to improve with the coaches and training partners that I have," said Guida. "I have a lot to prove [at featherweight] and I'm super excited."

I think the fight will happen eventually, but it seems like UFC is content with giving Edgar a title shot with Aldo when Jose is healthy. So in the meantime, i would like to see Clay fight Dustin Porier.

Don't think Clay deserves that type of fight straight outta the gate given his tactics in his fight with Gray last time out. Needs to earn that shit.

I agree, i'm hoping he goes back to his old ways now that he's in a new division. He's got cardio that will go on for days, perfect for this division. Idk why but i really want to see Clay fight Faber at some point also, obviously we'd have to see Faber move up to 145 to make that fight happen. With the lack of talent at 145 right now, it'd be fairly easy for both Faber and Guida to move up the ranks pretty fast.

Faber wouldn't want to move up cause if he winds up getting a title shot and its against Aldo... it'll be ugly.

But Clay... he gotta earn a top notch fight. His performance against Gray was horrible.

Not really interested in this fight right now, it just seems like a lightweight fight at a catchweight.

Would prefer both to go and fight legit featherweights first and see how they do.

Zombie vs either would be a great fight, bar any Greg Jackson inspired gameplans.

Clay Guida is the most boring fighter on the roster, just because the guy hops around between rounds and after the fight doesn't make him exciting, he is the epitome of LaynPray when he actually gets an advantage.

Frankie would beat him easy, he isn't anything more than a gatekeeper. A Joe Stevenson.

I agree that it is too early for Guida to be asking for a big fight like this. Eventually it may happen but only if Guida can beat a couple of other Featherweights and actually earn it.
