- Hogan is angry at Nash, but Nash responds that it's every man for himself in World War 3, and that he intends to bring back the world title for the good of the nWo, and that Hogan will be the first to challenge for it... if he beats Sting at Starrcade. Hogan refuses to face Sting, but is eventually convinced. Luger is set to face Nash, who tells Luger that unlike some other members of the nWo, he can win all by himself.
- Kevin Nash wins the WCW World Title against Lex Luger, while Sting defeats Hulk Hogan when Bret Hart debuts in the company to save Sting from nWo interference.
January 1998:
- Kevin Nash stands tall and with the WCW Title while Hogan isn't anywhere to be seen, which means that Nash is the leader. He says that anyone willing to face him can challenge for the title, because Nash has proven he has what it takes to win by himself. Luger comes out asking for a rematch, which Nash grants him.
- Nash beats Luger to retain at the PPV.
February 1998:
- Hogan returns and congratulates Nash on a job well done, bringing the WCW title back to the nWo. He states that he and Nash have unfinished business, and that Hogan was embarrassed at Starrcade by Bret Hart and especially Sting. He demands Nash help him deal with the two. Nash doesn't take kindly to being demanded to do things for Hogan. Nash states that he has the WCW title to defend, and elects Konnan to do it.
- The Giant opts to be the one to challenge Nash for the title, setting up a giant vs giant match at the ppv.
- Sting and Bret defeat Hogan & Konnan when Konnan eats a pin and Hogan, notably, doesn't stop the pin. Nash beats Giant to retain.
March 1998:
- Hogan lashes out at Konnan for losing the match and has his lackeys beat down and kick out Konnan from the group.
- Nash rightfully points out that they wouldn't have lost if Hogan didn't stand by and let the pin happen. Hogan demands a title shot against Nash. Nash instead declines, and tells Hogan to his face that Nash is going to defend against one man: Sting. Hogan is apoplectic at being snubbed, and he and his lackeys leave. Notably, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, and Rick Rude stay behind with Nash.
- Hogan for weeks feels like his authority is being undermined by Nash, and intends to be the #1 guy in the nWo...
- Sting vs. Nash at the PPV sees Sting being Jackknifed while the ref is down. Hulk Hogan interferes and clocks Nash with the WCW Title. Hogan isn't finished, and whallops Nash with a chair, before leaving. Sting comes to, and not knowing what happened, pins Nash for the win.
April 1998:
- Sting comes out with the title, celebrating with many WCW stars. Sting proclaims that the nWo will not take back the WCW title if he can help it.
- Hulk Hogan and lackeys attack Hall, Savage, and Rude throughout the next few weeks. Hogan declares that he is the undisputed leader of the nWo, and nobody can undermine him now.
- the PPV sees Hogan vs. Sting yet again. Hogan wins via DQ when he is suddenly attacked by Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, and Konnan (with Rude managing them), with the show ending in a giant brawl between nWo members.
- The night after the PPV, Kevin Nash debuts the nWo Wolfpac, a contingent of former nWo members, who are challenging Hogan's authority. This stable is not face, but tweener, so to keep WCW as the true baby faces. Luger and Sting do not join, since they are both anti-nWo.
May 1998:
- The nWo Civil War begins, as the PPV sets up Hollywood vs. Wolfpac: Hogan, Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, and The Disciple vs. Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, and Konnan.
- Sting grants Bret Hart a proper challenge for the WCW World Title, seeing him as worthy after being by his side against the nWo.
- nWo Wolfpac wins after the Disciple is pinned by Kevin Nash when Hogan leaves the match, not wanting to be pinned himself.
- Sting retains against Bret Hart.
June 1998:
- Sting's next challenger would be Goldberg, the current US Champion, and undefeated in WCW.
- Meanwhile, the war continues between in the nWo. Hulk Hogan wants to challenge for the WCW title, and so does Nash.
- Goldberg defeats Sting to win the WCW World Title.
- The night after, Hogan comes out while Goldberg celebrates his title win, and tries to recruit him to nWo Hollywood. Nash comes out after and says that Goldberg is too sweet to join Hogan and the Hollywood. Goldberg declines to join either Hollywood or Wolfpac. Hogan tries to attack Goldberg from behind, but Goldberg pummels Hogan, while Nash watches on.
- The Giant challenges Goldberg for the WCW Title. The Giant, still a member of team WCW at this moment, wants to be the first man to defeat Goldberg.
- During this time, the Civil War continues, with Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell winning the world tag team Championships in May. Nash and Hall challenge Steiner and Bagwell for the titles. Hulk Hogan in the meantime still has unfinished business with Sting, wanting revenge for Starrcade.
- At the Great American Bash, Hogan finally defeats Sting, Nash & Hall defeat Steiner & Bagwell, and Goldberg defeats The Giant.
July 1998:
- With Sting finally behind him, Hogan focuses on Goldberg. He didn't forget when Goldbert threw him around like a rag doll and demands that Goldberg puts his title on the line against Hogan. Goldberg agrees to defend his title. The next few weeks are Hogan hyping himself up against Goldberg, and describes that when he wins the title again, he's going to run Nash and the Wolfpac out of WCW once and for all.
- Hall & Nash have the tag titles and have a mini feud with Flair and Hennig, who want the titles for the Horsemen.
- Goldberg, on PPV defeats Hogan clean, and Hall & Nash defeat Flair & Hennig.
August 1998:
- With Hogan defeated, Goldberg turns his attention to Nash. Nash says that he wants the WCW World Title, so to prove that the Wolfpac is the one true nWo. Goldberg doesn't give a shit about the nWo war, he only wants a proper challenge.
- Hogan isn't seen for a few weeks after his loss to Goldberg. Many of his underlings speak to him over the phone and do his bidding that way.
- At Road Wild, Nash and Goldberg have a spirited back and forth match, but it ends in DQ when Hogan returns and takes out both Goldberg and Nash with a steel pipe. He gets on the mic and declares that the Wolfpac and WCW are going to hell when he takes back the WCW World Title, and he wants his rematch.
September 1998:
- Hogan comes out and announces that nWo Hollywood officially challenges nWo Wolfpac to War Games. The winner of the War Games will become the #1 Contender to the WCW Championship at Starrcade. Nash agrees to it, and in the next few weeks Team WCW is added too. War Games inevitably becomes: Hogan, Steiner, Bagwell, and Stevie Ray vs. Nash, Hall, Savage, and Konnan vs. Bret Hart, DDP, Lex Luger, and Roddy Piper.
- Goldberg instead had a personal annoyance with a man by the name of Chris Jericho, who had been calling him out and demanding a world title. Goldberg saw Jericho as beneath him, but that changed when Jericho would knock out Goldberg backstage with a chair and placing him in a Liontamer to hurt his back. Goldberg had enough and decides that Jericho is next.
- At the PPV, Goldberg, with a hurt back, manages to defeat Jericho. nWo Hollywood wins War Games when Hogan pins Lex Luger, settling that old feud as well.
October 1998:
- Hogan gloats about winning War Games over WCW and the Wolfpac. He wants Goldberg at Starrcade. He intends to just sit back and let the title shot come to him.
- Nash however still is determined to challenge for the WCW title. He formally challenges Goldberg for the WCW World Title. However, the Contender becomes DDP, the US Champion.
- Goldberg defeats DDP at the PPV.
November 1998:
- Hulk Hogan continues to gloat about having the Starrcade main event to himself. Kevin Nash wants a title shot at World War 3, but instead, he is offered something greater. It is announced that World War 3 this year will have special stipulations that will affect everyone... if a member of nWo Hollywood wins World War 3, Hogan will remain the #1 Contender. If a member of WCW wins though, they will replace Hogan at Starrcade... and finally, if a member of nWo Wolfpac wins, they will be added to the World Title match at Starrcade. Hogan emphasizes his lackeys that they work together to dominate the match and keep Hogan in the clear for Starrcade.
- For the second year in a row, Kevin Nash wins World War 3, and is added to the main event of Starrcade.
December 1998:
- We finally arrive at December. It's been building to this: Hogan vs. Nash vs. Goldberg. Hogan proclaims that when he wins, the Wolfpac must disband, and Nash quips that Hollywood should disband if Nash wins. Goldberg doesn't care what happens as long as he retains his title. However, WCW sees vested interest and announces that if Goldberg wins at Starrcade, or if he retains the title, that the nWo must formally disband in its entirety. Both Hollywood and Wolfpac will be disbanded and all their wrestlers will become WCW wrestlers again.
- In a Three-Way match, Goldberg does the improbable, and pins Nash to not only retain the WCW World Title, but also end the nWo for good...
Aftermath:
- With the nWo gone, Hogan goes solo and realizing he isn't getting anywhere, goes on hiatus for a while, returning later in the year in his Red and Yellow, and he becomes a mix of his Hollywood Hogan and Hulk Hogan personas, an American babyface but with an edge and plenty of cockiness, but still in the fans' corners.
- Nash sticks with Scott Hall and the two focus on tag team wrestling for a while, while Konnan forms his own group, and Macho Man goes on hiatus himself.
- Goldberg continues to hold onto the WCW title until he is defeated by Bret Hart at the Great American Bash 1999.
