If people with the power wanted to abuse it they could with or without legislation let's be honest here.

This would make things a lot easier and less sketchy though. Not that it matter. 'murrikans are fucking blueberries.

This. Also, if they do it illegally it would only work on a smaller scale. To do it on a larger scale they would need to do it legally.

It doesn't though, you're bringing attention to it. I'm sure a lot of people believe the government can gain your information anyway, why bring attention to it by saying "lol sorry guys we didn't do it but now we need to". People have accepted it as the norm now you're just bringing attention to it and giving people a reason to be annoyed and attempt to fight it. If anything this'll be a bill Obama rejects to boost his popularity amongst voters (you know the people who believe he cares about them or their privacy? Whilst they chronicle their life on public facebook pages usually anyway)

A few links showing Obama's stance.

It doesn't, look at Guantanamo Bay as an example that breaks countless human rights acts by most accounts yet it's still there. If the people in power wished to continue to do these things it doesn't matter if it's legal or illegal. You your self have posted a belief 9/11 was an inside job along with The Boston Bombings haven't you? Why doesn't murder being illegal stop these actions then? That isn't on a small scale is it?

Social networking is going to be used against you. Facebook, Twitter, ect. I don't use Facebook and i may end up canning Twitter. I try to use as little as real info as possible.
This was being done already, but now they can "say" they are doing it. The government has more power in the US then the average American thinks. Its a shame cause no one asks questions anymore. They are just all about whats trending or whats "cool". They are so self absorbed in their own lives that they don't care to take a look around them and see all the hate, greed, poverty, and the power being held at their throats. They would much rather work their 9-5, drink their Starbucks coffee, wear their name brands & listen to their sell out music groups then put any thought into anything anymore. To most, life has become "How much can I get" rather then "How much can I give". People are turning on each other, their own races, their own families... I guess the higher ups are doing a good job... Divide and conquer.

And if I don't have anything to hide, why should I worry?

Plus as has been previously stated. Both the senate and the president don't like this bill. The chances of it being vetoe'd are close to 99%.

People are stupid these days. I bet anything if this was attacking their internet, they would do something. Look at SOPA, everybody took part in trying to rid it. Why? Because you don't have to stand up. It's sad, the government can do all this damage to us, hell we can start a war, but if you mess with the oh so precious internet, then people stand up. I'm disgusted by my fellow Americans most of the time, and of course I see most blowing their lives away, not doing anything to better themselves. I have nothing to hide, if the government really wants to go through my stuff, go right ahead.
