SmackDown writer Michael Hayes originally came up with the idea of Christian Cage doing all the sneak attacks on Jeff Hardy to be revealed at the Royal Rumble. As time went on and people figured that Christian was behind it, and/or Hayes realized how Vince felt about Christian, he approached Vince with the idea of giving the role to Matt Hardy. Hayes sold the idea on the fact that Matt vs. Jeff would be a bigger surprise and bigger draw than Jeff vs. Christian, and Vince agreed with him.

John Laurinaitis had been pushing to do something with Christian sooner, rather than have him sit and wait until April. While all the talk about his return was going on, Vince started to sour on Christian. Back in 2005, whenever ideas were brought up for Christian, Vince always nixed them and only saw Cage as an upper midcarder. Vince even said in meetings that Christian had no star aura about him and that his head shot promotional photo was one of the worse he had ever seen.

RAW writer Brian Gewirtz asked about bringing him to RAW after Matt got the spot on SmackDown, but there was concern he would end up like D-Lo Brown - just hired and forgot about without getting a chance. They came up with the idea to give him a new feud with someone Vince is high on, that being Jack Swagger. They felt the longer they didn’t get him on TV, the more likely he’d end up never to get going and this was the best thing they had for him. The original idea for the ECW show had the same opener with the two but several segments were planned that showed Christian meeting the talent on the brand and putting him over like it was a big thing he was there.

The actual match was booked to be a short sprint for him to shine some more, ending with Swagger getting counted out or some crazy no contest. Vince ended up changing the show to what it ended up being. It was seen internally as Vince having no vision of Christian as a star.

Make of it what you will....but I don't know how good things are looking for Captain Charisma.

Ya, ok, so they went out and pursued this guy, and suddenly hate him? Not buying it.
They obviously agreed on everything that will happen when they negotiated, and Vince obviously brought him in for a reason.
I guarantee he will be on either Raw or SD by the summer.

^Yeah, it seems a little extreme. I mean, the guy has only been there two weeks and already theres tons of rumors out on his status with the company. Hopefully everything was just a last minute swerve to cover for the leaked plot. At this point I'm hoping to see him chase Swagger into Mania....not get the title. And hopefully be drafted off to RAW.

This is just some blowhard on a new site having a snap reaction to him coming back and being on ECW and basing news that Vince wasn't big on him back during his first run and taking this return on ECW as the same.

Fuckin stupid.

Yeah, he must have such disdain for Christian. I mean, giving him an on debut feud with one of the biggest babyfaces in the company, and at the time WWE Champion. He's getting buried, he should've stayed in TNA!

Yeah, Vince really hates Christian. Jack Swagger had only been pinned 1 time since he debuted in the WWE, and Christian beats him 2 weeks in a row...yeah, Vince must really hate Christian.

Christian bailed out on Vince when there wasn't any competition around. Christian made TNA a concern for WWE. While I would rather have him come back in a huge feud, it should be understandable why he might have to take some bumps and bruises and underachieve for the time being. Underachieving being the ECW title. Have to test the waters and see if he sells before you give him time above someone else who didn't leave the company and bash WWE while in TNA.

I agree. You couldn't just give Christian such a big storyline when you don't even know how people would react to him.

With his role in ECW, people get use to him and they remember him.

BTW, I have always wondered how this sites know what Michael Hayes told Vince Mcmahon, because I really doubt they work for the WWE or that Hayes went to Vince and in the middle of the hallway, in front of a lot of people, told him the secrets of a storyline

Hayes makes sence. But the article saying that Vince is not a christian fan is a load. He had him beat swagger the first night back. And he will probably win the title of Swagger at some point.

I think the Internet community or whatever they callthemselves hired this gun

to spy and leak it too their crackpot journalists.

Must of just seen Pulse and used a Red Tarp to hide the EC so the hired gun couldn't of seen that Edge was in the EC. I wonder why he didn't leak out the rest of the matches. Do the red ropes count for ghosts too. Anyone seen pulse 2?
