Chris Jericho is extending his commitment with AEW.

It was announced via Variety today that the 51-year-old Jericho has signed a three-year contract extension with AEW, which takes his deal through December 2025. Jericho has been with AEW since its launch and was the company's first World Champion.

Like with the extension recently signed by Jon Moxley, Jericho will take on new duties in addition to his in-ring role. Jericho will now be a producer and creative advisor for AEW, and he will continue to mentor young talent.

Jericho spoke to Variety about his decision to sign an extension:
I guess the simple answer is ‘Why not?' Things have been going so well in the company, and I really do feel that this is my company. It’s tattooed on my heart, so to speak. I’ve been here since day one, and there’s really no reason not to be here continuing forward.
When AEW first started, I think basically it was Chris Jericho and a group of very talented people that might not have been as well known. Within three months that changed and now within three years, we’ve got at least a dozen, maybe two dozen, of our own homegrown stars that came into their own on AEW television.

AEW CEO Tony Khan also issued a statement about Jericho's new deal:
Chris Jericho long ago cemented his legacy as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and we’re fortunate to have his skills, charisma, knowledge and insights in AEW for years to come. Chris has discovered a fountain of youth this year, and he’s having some of the very best matches of his legendary career against some of the top names in wrestling. In expanding his responsibilities, he’ll continue to serve as a valuable leader with our roster having the opportunity to utilize one of most creative minds in the history of wrestling.

Jericho is currently the ROH World Champion. It's the eighth World title that he's held in his career.

Jericho became ROH World Champion by defeating Claudio Castagnoli at Dynamite Grand Slam last month, On last Wednesday's Dynamite, Jericho retained the ROH World Championship against Bryan Danielson after Daniel Garcia hit Danielson with the ROH title belt.

It's a great choice for him. Though I will say that I hope that in some point in his career he returns even if it's only one match. But then again I don't know who a final match for him would be against most of his greates feuds in WWE are long gone.

The press release thinks he will slowly phase out of TV and go into a backstage role/commentary more. I would rather he did more backstage stuff cause I hate him on commentary

The GOAT, seriously I've always loved Jericho and leaving WWE for Japan and then AEW has given him a new lease on life. I think upper midcard and midcard and moving to putting over people is now the way to go. I think he will definitely return to WWE for their Hall of Fame at the very least at some point.

I like this news. Jericho has been killing it lately and honestly he’s got no right to still be this good at 51.

I don’t doubt that he’ll do one more match in WWE and come back for the HOF, but given he’s done the odd thing here and there for WWE since being part of AEW, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is able to negotiate something between the two parties for him to appear at a HOF ceremony.

I don't see him getting offered until he's out of action.

Oh yeah I can see this happening as well. Maybe they won’t want someone actually wrestling for a rival company getting any shine. If Jericho is more backstage in the future the odds of him getting a HOF rub increase exponentially I think.

Not going to read too many tea leaves and say he will or won't, but I actually think trips in charge lowers the chance of Jericho coming back to WWE. Gonna be a few rare cases of that, some ppl really liked Vince
