Chris Benoit - 10 Years Later

Before I began researching suicide, I worked with studying and profiling serial killers. It was by far the most depressing job in the world and I probably went through a bottle of vodka every day. One thing I noticed, though, is that people more readily accept that a person is evil than the fact that they might not be in control of their mind and body jjtime to time.

Now don't get me wrong. There are people who I would describe as completely evil. I think Charles Manson was completely in control. Leopold and Lobe, completely in control. I remember, though, studying a murderer who actually volunteered for a study to find out why he had a compulsion to kill. In all of his parole hearings, he told the parole board to not let him go because the first thing he would do is kill. They scanned his brain and his frontal lobe activity was nearly nonexistent.

Most people would rather view Benoit as an evil man rather than a man who was not in control. I think it is easier to think that a person chooses to kill rather than kill because they have no control. It makes it easier for us to judge that person and we are by nature very judgmental.

I know of Owen Hart's accident. Thats was a pretty sad moment as well. What year did STING Try that? I thought I saw someone mention that?

What happened was shitty. And I view the wwe Benoit totally separate from June 2007 Benoit for the very fact that Jacob has been stating, he most likely was not in full control of his mind at the time. It's just so very devastating what went down.
I watched wm 23 (that was his last,correct?) Rather recently, And seeing him win that title and receiving so much praise from everyone. Commentators were saying how much he deserved that title because he's put so much time and effort into his work..

Then a couple months later his incident happened. It's just so terrible. He was among my favourites. I liked the guy so much for his wrestling work.

It's truly unfortunate what transpired on those fateful days, but I do not disregard him as being one of the best in-ring workers I got the privilege of watching growing up. I do, however, dislike his final actions. And sadly, that is the only thing most people choose to remember about him.

I had a discussion with a Co worker recently about him as well, and he's with the majority of people. Although we were talking about his wrestling, buddy wouldn't give in.

It's just too bad he did what he did. If only he could have been able to just walk away and calm down, they might all still be alive today, with Benoit on a commentary role or something. Managers role. Anything.

Just hearing that he had the brain of an 80 year old Alzheimer's patient is enough I need to hear to not judge him like I would if he had a healthy brain.

My grandfather had Alzheimer's for the last years of his life and it was crazy. One day he's himself, other days he's still calm but doesn't remember much, and then there are days when he's screaming at my grandmother for cheating on him when she's just talking to someone like my mom on the phone. They are no longer themselves, at least for the most part. Anything can change at the drop of a dime.

What happened was horrible, but I will not judge him.

I don't really have a lot I can add to this thread. Jacob Fox and Stopspot more or less covered my own take on the tragedies well enough and better than I probably could so I don't see much reason to reiterate what has already been said. I will share this MVP interview since he also covers some of my own personal thoughts. The only other things I'll add is, I've always been capable of separating the art from the person and more relevant to this topic, Chris Benoit is still one of my favorites. His match with Kurt Angle at the Royal Rumble in 2003 is my personal favorite match of all-time.
