According to California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd, Chael Sonnen has been notified that he failed post-fight drug screening following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117, which was held Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

“[Sonnen] received his notice yesterday,” Dodd told Sherdog.com shortly after the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora boxing match ended Saturday night in Los Angeles.

In a conversation the day before, Dodd declined to comment on the situation, other than answering that all fighters from UFC 117 had passed drugs-of-abuse scans, but that the commission was still waiting on performance-enhancing drug screens from the event.

Dodd did not state which banned substance was red-flagged, but with a clean drugs-of-abuse scan it is clear the positive test was for a performance-enhancing substance.

The last major UFC banned-substance case in the state centered on UFC 73’s lightweight title match, which saw both competitors -- Sean Sherk and Hermes Franca -- test positive for PEDs. Both fighters were suspended for one year and fined, though Sherk appealed and had his suspension shortened to six months.

Sonnen is staring at a long layoff if he elects not to appeal or is denied. He was scheduled to rematch Silva Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, but that fight may be delayed or scrapped in light of these allegations.

Text messages to Sonnen went unreturned.

His manager Matt Lindland told Sherdog.com that he was cornering a fighter on the East Coast and had no knowledge of the positive test results.

Silva’s manager Ed Soares, who engaged in some heated exchanges via the media in the build up to the fight, was stunned when asked for his reaction.

“If it’s true, I feel really bad for him,” said Soares. “I know he did it to himself but it is really sad, he put on such a great performance that night. It is just a shame it will be tarnished.”

I guess that's just about it for him. It's really too bad because he was really growing on me.

why the fuck did sonnens mouth keep on running if he was on something? good gawd we're about to hear a roger clemens story out of him. still hoping it's just cold medicine.

Life advice from Chael Sonnen

Take Lance Armstrong. Lance Armstrong did a number of things and he gave himself cancer. He cheated, he did drugs, and he gave himself cancer. Well, instead of saying ‘Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don’t be like me.’ He actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million dollars from this ‘Hey, poor me, let’s find a cure for cancer’ campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, ‘Look, here’s what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.’ You just watch these guys and can’t help but think, God, what a fraud.

here's a pic of his back acne from the weighins. hxxp://i.imgur.com/MVXC6.jpg

Nate Marquardt with the inside scoop:

"Ok so sounds like it's confirmed that Sonnen failed drug test when he fought Silva. Apparently he was taking meds 4 flu n that made positive"

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I still to this day cannot figure out why anabolic/androgenic steroids are called "performance enhancing drugs", when they do no such thing. First let me say that I have ran several cycles of AAS and the only performance that they enhance is sexual. Steroids help the body recover faster from workouts, not enhance athletic performance. Now, that's not saying that AAS is what he tested positive for, as any number of things can give you a false positive. Im on a suboxone regimen for my past opioid usage and get piss tested each time I go to refill my meds. Last December I caught flu and took nyquil. 3 days later, I tested positive for opioids when I hadn't touched them.

Im not saying Sonnen used them, then again, Im not saying he didn't either. The back acne proves nothing. Being a wrestler for 10 years, I can tell you I got more body acne from practice then I ever have on steroids. If he did them, oh well. He lost anyways, so whooptie doo. He'll get a suspension from the state athletic commission where the fight with Silva took place, and the UFC may give him an extra few weeks suspension, but that's about it. All Sherk got was a suspension. Until I hear for sure what it is, then no biggie.

Don't worry about how many pounds 800,000 comes to because you haven't won anything. This is just another scam.
