First off, this was inspired a tiny bit by the thread CenaMark made about the Attitude Era... Watching Raw klately, and even SD, I can't help but notice Cena is a bit different. He still throws out some cheesy limes, and goes over the top, but not as much, and in general, his promos have a different feel to them. No, he's not coming out and swearing, and giving the finger, and all that, like the 2003 version of himself. Instead, it's more like the early 2005 version, that was still hugely popular. Without swearing, he just seems to have more of an edge to his character, and be a bit more unpredictable, and a bit less awful.

But does anyone think this will last? Or, like wwe as a whole right now, is it just because of the Road to Wrestlemania? Do you think we'll see the same old Cena agin after WM?

i don't like cena firstly...

but i will say this his 2005-2007 time was pretty solid.. I think some of his injuries have taking a toll on it..

because his in-ring work isn't as good as it was during those years..(maybe it could be due to ring rust from time off, i dunno)

I am kinda hoping we will get the cena character that has a mixer of the Austin 2001.. On which he will do anything to get the belt even if it alliance himself with a dreaded enemy from the past...

but i doubt we will see that happen...(i still hate the man, but he has made me respect him, unlike Batista)...

Sure, he's not cracking as many corny jokes and catchphrases but he's still coming off ridiculous. His promos seriously sound like Officer Mcdoogooder.
Which is something I was seriously thinking could happen when 12 rounds came out...
Think about it, Cena took on the marine gimmick when he did his last movie. Shouldn't we all just be counting down the minutes until he starts acting like super cop. And that's exactlly what his promos have been screaming to me as of late.
"You run, I'll catcha! You hide... I'LL FIND YA!"

The thing is I really don't mind Cena all that much. Probably simply because I met the guy once and had a convo with him and you seriously can't meet a nicer dude. He's got dedication to the business and does work his ass off. Part of the reason I don't like his character is for the obvious reason...he's marketed towards kids....and I am not a kid...lol

He's definately far more tolerable while he's chasing a title than when he's holding one.

what the fuck are you on? Are we seeing the same Cena? I've said it soo much and quite frankly once i do lay out all the points no one responds to them anyway so i'll be frank.

Cena get's worse and worse, a gimmick change would do wonders for this guy. He's so awfully limited and we've had to witness it for years and years.

I don't see the "edge" you're seeing. I see the same Cena week in and week out for 3-4 years now. His mic work slightly changes and he doesn't do as much terrible jokes as he use to. Only once every second week or something like that. Maybe the fact that he's chasing people around would make you assume he has a "edge" but really this is him failing at looking hungry and desperate. He would do a better job at it if his shit eating grin was more of a sly shit this ain't getting me nowhere grin. but it's not and its the same monkey smile we see during his mic work or his saulte to the fans or w/e

Cena is best off turning heel and losing more often to people like mvp or jeff hardy. He is not as good and popular as people say he is. I say cena vs austin at wm25 and austin kills the twat.

Lol. Cena isn't popular.

Lol, Cena jobbing to MVP

Lol, Cena jobbing to Jeff Hardy.

In all honesy, I don't like how Cena has been booked as of late. I prefer 2007 Cena, in which he's booked as strong as you can get booked. He has been taking the backseat way too long since WM 24.

LOL....

Some don't like superman Cena, some don't like cheesy-grinning, kiddy-aimed Cena, some even say he was shit when he was a rapper... Whatchagonnado???? (*)

(*To quote an older franchise guy who shares a fair bit of common ground with THEE John.)

Don't wanna take credit for someone else's wisdom, but it appears to me (too) that Cena is at his best when he has something more to get his teeth into than "I'm the Champ... I respect you, but I'll beat you etc.". (See JBL/HBK/Cena.... That was awesome.)

Again, I'd like to see WWE push John Cena down the ladder a bit like they've done to CM Punk. Have him compete for some smaller belts, but keep him in the storyline of trying to get back up to the #1 spot. I think if they had him devastate some of the smaller names for a while, and then build up to a match for the championship after WM26, yes six, Cena could sell better.

People are tired of seeing his nus worshipped by management and creative. When he's got something to fight for, he's great.

Alright, before I get going here with this post, let me make it clear that I'm not even a hgue Cena fan. i can name at LEAST 15 guys I like more than him, so this isn't biased at all, but...
If you hate the guy, that's preferctly fine. But don't make up stuff, man, or be delusional. Be realistic.
Firstly, do you think for a second, that they're going to have him not main eventing? Like him or not, he brings in all their money, and tons of ratings. Pushing himd own would be stupid.
secondly, Cena's popularity is way bigger now than any time over the past two year. If I were in the arena, I sure as hell wouldn't be cheering for him, but almost all the rest of the crowd would be. For the past 2 years and more, up until a few months ago, he was being booed way more than he was cheered... Listen to the reactions now though. His reactions now are almost completey cheers, and the best they have been since 2005.

Anyways, think what you want about Cena, hell, I don't even like him that much, but don't say Blue things, like him not being the face of the company.

One other things. How has this even gotten so off topic. The point of this thread wasn't to be another "do you like him or not" thread!

I didn't say Blue things like him not being the face of the company. I'm saying they should do like they did with every other great in recent WWE. Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, CM Punk, etc. I said push him down the ladder, not wipe him off the face of the map.

Have him fight some no-names, push him back to mid-card, let him grab the Intercontinental or US Title again, and keep his main goal the entire time to grab the title. Have the GM constantly work to keep him out of the heavyweight title scene so he's got something to fight for, eventually getting him to the point where they can't deny him anymore (kinda like Orton with his WM stipulation) and then push him back into the title picture.

You shouldn't lose the title, and get the first rematch, lose, and get another rematch just off of your name alone. You should have to work back into it. Again, I didn't say a thing about taking him out of the title scene completely, make that his drive and make it known that it's his drive to get back to the title scene.

^^^^Why do you keep saying push him down like CM Punk. The reason Punk is in the mid card where he should be is because he failed as a Main eventer, Cena has not. Yes it may be good to push him down for a tad bit, but not push him down cause he's a fail ME... like Punk, but push him down because he needs to stay away from the World title.

That makes as much sense as it would have having The Rock fighting for the IC Championship in 2001.

To be perfectly honest, Cena has been fine ever since he lost the WWE Title after his year long reign. WWE de-pushed him a little bit and he's been tolerable. I don't have a problem with him
