Daniel Wheeler, a tag-team champion in All Elite Wrestling, was arrested Friday morning by the Orlando Police Department and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. He was booked in Circuit Court, according to county records.

Wheeler, 36, better known in wrestling circles as Cash Wheeler, is a member of the tag team FTR with Dax Harwood. They hold the AEW tag-team championship.

AEW issued a statement to the Sentinel, which reads: “AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation. (Wheeler) is fully cooperating with local authorities.”

AEW is generally considered the No. 2 wrestling promotion in the U.S. behind WWE; Wheeler is scheduled to wrestle Aug. 27 in London on a show expected to draw 80,000 fans.

Wheeler is an 18-year veteran wrestler who spent six years in the WWE system, including time in Orlando-based NXT, before joining AEW in 2020.

Innocent until proven guilty, etc. But this is a terrible time for something like this to happen. God knows he might not be let in the UK given the nature of his charges. Like this is a case where it may be better to vacate the tag titles, on Dynamite next week get a team to face the Bucks for the titles, and just wait until the legal situation is resolved before making a final decision. Dash can potentially transition into a singles role temporarily. Just damn.

According to county records, an arrest warrant was filed on July 28 and Wheeler pled not guilty through a lawyer on August 3. He was then arrested by the Orlando Police Department this morning. A hearing has been scheduled for later today.

Further information regarding the incident that led to the charge is not currently available.

AEW issued a statement in response to the news.

"AEW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation. (Wheeler) is fully cooperating with local authorities,” the company stated to the Orlando Sentinel.

According to Hanlon Law, the maximum penalty for the charge in Florida is five years in prison or five years probation, plus a $5000 fine. The firm notes that even first-time offenders can face jail time for the offense.
