“Well, I don’t know Tony Khan personally and I don’t know enough of their people well enough to know or to speculate that they would particularly do something like that just to hurt. Now, with that being said, you know, the traditional etiquette would be: there’s a window where you don’t go to the same buildings. Should that window exist? Often times, you can call it an unwritten rule — or in many cases it’s a written rule. And I’m sure most of the venues, when AEW goes to venues, they probably have a rule written in that no other wrestling show can go there within 30 days or 60 days. It’s a pretty standard practice in the wrestling business — and a lot of entertainment industries there’s rules like that, both written and unwritten."

“Do I think that they literally set out to look for a way to hurt GCW? I’m not ready to go that far with it. But do I think that maybe it wasn’t the most polite thing to do? Maybe. I mean, they are a billionaire company with endless resources and they run multiple television shows every week, so they could run an event there anytime they wanted. They don’t have to do it in December or January or whatever. They can do it in February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September. They could do it every month if they wanted to. But they chose to do it in late December, which happens to be less than 30 days before we’re there. So, I mean, it’s not the greatest of circumstances for us.”
“People going to our show just because it’s a wrestling show at the Hammerstein Ballroom, that’s off the table now, So, yes, we do have to win people over. We do have to sell our card. And, yeah, of course, we have to give a card worthy of the attention and worthy of the prestige of being there. And we have to make people buy tickets. Yeah, that’s the game plan. We’re working on it. We’ve got ideas. I think we’ll start to see some of the picture start to come clear this weekend, and we’re working on it and trying to make the rest of it come together.”

poor gcw. such victims, much sad

Good grief, this is just getting sad. I guess it's getting some people talking but this whole "wow the company sure has sucked. also now were getting bullied by aew" is such a strange, loser angle. I don't think anyone is buying into this. Also potentially alienating aew talent and fans is...weird?

Idk man, from what I read, ticket sales were already poor. GCW has probably never been colder as far a cool factor, no pun intended. This seems very desperate.

Just put on a good show.

I'd say he's at least much more self-aware than the Effy comments at least, he kinda does say it's on them to still put on the good show to draw, but is like preemptively excusing another failure too.

Personally I can't see December AEW shows hurting the market at all for a January GCW show, New York always draws

yeah people who were going to this show are not suddenly not gonna go to this. I also do not think this unwritten code has ever applied to majors towards the minors, ever? Like WWE and AEW are just going to do what is best for them and I doubt they even remembered there was a January show like how would they care at all, they aren't even official partners

just feels like a real forced tribalism attempt or like, trying to sway the aew bad weirdos to come to the show but i really dont think those ppl are going to spend money elsewhere. i dont think weve seen a gigantic number of aew or wwe fans rush to tna venues or cmll venues for example

It's never applied to WWE but to an extent I can say it's existed before so I think the disconnect is if AEW is "WWE Level" or " indie level" which can be a debate tbf bc realistically they're not either, they're their own thing that's way bigger than indies but not WWE so they still run Hammerstein for example

Like WWE might run Hammerstein for NXT and have been rumored to be interested, and in that situation, they would give no fucks if GCW had it booked either

I mean I can kinda see his point, a little bit. If I ran a wrestling company and this happened to me, I’d be a little bit upset by it. But I would use it as motivation to like, book the best possible show I could, maybe try and spend a little bit more money to get some bigger stars on the show. Surely being GCW, who’s worked with WWE before? See about getting a decent WWE Star, someone in the mid card or something like that, and get them on the show.

They were literally trying to get a date around the one aew got, hence got blocked out. I'm sure they'll go in a few months

I mean it's a month and it's a business. Venues are allowed to make money. It's not like aew is stopping them from running either. To me this feels very fake victim. It's not aew's concern to fill your venues.

Their relationship with WWE is odd. I feel like it's only been Bloodsport unless someone can prove me wrong on that. That's certainly a GCW production but still very separate. I think Brett pushes being cool with WWE more than they actually are when it seems like Josh Barnett is the only one who can actually book WWE talent

But tge main point for me is they are not even in competition so ya, feels like manufactured 3xcyse making for current poor sales and trying to market an us vs them mentality to get more tickets.

I mean yeah, but like i said I can understand also being a bit upset, even in that case. I’m not saying AEW is wrong for it by any means either, business is business.

Yea I think they don't trust Brett to book their guys or their lockeroom. Guessing Josh is a no bs guy n all business, he's learned to play Ni with legit all the 3 majors I think
