The following are highlights of a new Boston Herald interview with Bret “The Hitman” Hart:

On his classic Iron Man match with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania: “We both made that a classic match that will never, ever lose its shine. I remember there was a certain point when I had to be setting up a move with exactly five minutes left in the match. I remember setting up on the second rope and looking at the score clock, and there was exactly four minutes and 59 seconds left in the match. There’s no wasted moves, and there was precision in every move.”

On his classic WrestleMania match with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin: “They ended up throwing me and Steve together and it was kind of an ice-cold story line,” said Hart. “That was a big disappointment, at first, for Steve and me. We’d just fought months earlier at the Survivor Series, and even though we loved working together, he was looking for someone new to work with and I was looking for Shawn.”

“The match with Austin was pro wrestling’s version of the best MMA fight,” said Hart. “Steve even calls me once in a while and goes, ‘I got our match on.’ He always tells me it’s his favorite he’s ever had, and it’s the same for me.”

“I’ve always felt that Steve was good enough to make it on his own anyway, but I do like to think I played a role in helping him.”

On how he would book WrestleMania XXX: “I hope they give Daniel Bryan his chance to win the belt at WrestleMania. He earned it a long time ago, but it wouldn’t surprise me — like Charlie Brown with the football — if they pull it away from him one last time. I really hope they give him his proper run, as he hasn’t had the opportunity yet to be the champion he deserves to be. Hopefully this year at WrestleMania, it will be a crowning achievement for Daniel Bryan.”

On the CM Punk situation: “When you look at it closely, Punk’s burned out. He’s always given 100 percent in all his matches, and delivered some of the best pay-per-view matches in the past 10 years. And it’s not easy when there are legends who only work part-time, and guys like Punk and Bryan do all the work, and watch someone like Brock Lesnar walk in and take those big matches and big paydays without having to be on the road all the time. I think that had a lot to do with his decision, and rightfully so.”

“One of Vince McMahon’s favorite sayings is, ‘Life’s not fair.’ I don’t see Punk being a factor at WrestleMania, but he still has a lot of greatness left in him. As a fan, I hope he comes back, and as a wrestler, I have a lot of respect for him, too.”

Ahh, Bret. It amazes me how a stroke victim can bend so awkwardly so just his head can fit up his own a**.
That quote about the HBK match tells you everything you need to know about Bret Hart, his life and why he's such a dou***. '..lose its shine...' lol There are countless better iron man matches and tons better matches he's wrestled that I can count withut blinking
I'd probably take every major Perfect match and every major Austin match over that one match in particular. WWE overrates it to shine HBK's whistle and Bret overrates it because WWE overrates it. I love Bret shoots. He's a consummate dou***

Meh, he did help Steve but it's never been more apparent we're basically seeing a CM Punk interview 20 years from now. Yeah, Bret that's exactly what all your fans are thinking to this very day... another HBK borefest for WM13 vs What we got. Pffft

Looking back on it, I'm shocked that Bret/Michaels was ever the plan for Wrestlemania 13. Bret and Austin clearly had unfinished business after Survivor Series and the cheap victory that Austin obtained over Bret in the Royal Rumble match felt as if it was clearly building towards a big rematch between them. Thank fuck that's what ended up happening because Bret/Austin II > Bret/Michaels II. The Iron Man match imo is one of the most overrated matches of all time, and as JC4Life put it, not even close to being the best match of either man. (For the record, in case anyone was wondering, the original plans for Austin at WM13 before Michaels pussied out of having to job to Bret was for Austin/Maivia to compete for the Intercontinental Title.)

Which would have SUCK since he would face WM15, then again at wm17, then AGAIN at wm19! I still don't belive in this crap the HBK/Bret were facing of in a rematch I thin hype Bret then anything else. I mean the hold BS that he was sopost face Hogan at Summer Slam or King of the Ring which BS b/c Hogan contant ended shortly after King o the Ring and the plan always for Hogan to face Younhyana. I belive it was sopost Undertaker vs. HBK WM13 I always hear from people said that. But HBK had a knee injury which I find hard to belive that someone would FAKE a knee injury to missed out on a WM!

Michaels has admitted since then that he faked the knee injury. He even performed a back flip off the top rope just mere weeks after he "lost his smile" as his own little way of shoving it in everyone's faces. He also cut a promo around this time where he said "Shawn Michaels lays down for absolutely nobody" as his subtle way of saying he doesn't do jobs for people when he doesn't want to.

One of the reasons Bret hated Shawn and refused to put him over at Survivor Series 1997 (thus leading to the Montreal Screw Job) was because Michaels refused to job to Bret twice during 1997. First at WM13, then again at KOTR 1997. Bret felt why should he agree to do the job for Michaels (in his home country no less... keeping in mind that Bret took pride in being a Canadian national hero and didn't like jobbing in Canada) when Michaels has already twice that same year refused to do the same for Bret?

I don't belive that shit is true at all some to fake injury to know wrestler wm13 is dumb! I belie it sopost HBK vs. Taker at wm13 for the wwe title as that what end up having with Taker winning the title. Bret said a lot of thing not truth and maybe King of the Ring was right this shit about WM13 I eblive is false! And in Heart Break in trings dvd HBK said in in his own words it was real!

So, I'm curious, Gohan, if your mom admitted to dying her hair, would you still believe she didn't?

wk

I woud belive it. but HBK has never admit that he said in 2007 DVD the he was injury and that they show x-ray photo of his knee!
