BREAKING NEWS: Chris Jericho suspended indefinately

Chris Jericho has been suspended indefinitely due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE live event in São Paulo on May 24. WWE has apologized to the citizens and the government of Brazil for this incident.

This is the full story:

A WWE event in Brazil came to a screeching halt Thursday evening ... when local law enforcement stopped a live match and threatened to arrest Chris Jericho for desecrating the Brazilian flag.

It all went down during a match between Jericho and C.M. Punk -- who was proudly waving the flag in the ring. Jericho took the flag away, crumpled it up and kicked the flag out of the ring ... and that's when police stepped in and put a stop to the event.

We're told Jericho was informed that desecrating the national flag is a crime in Brazil ... punishable by incarceration.

Cops gave Jericho an option -- apologize to the arena ... or go to jail. Chris chose the former ... grabbing the mic and telling the crowd he immediately regretted his actions. Cops allowed the event to continue.

Sources connected to the WWE tell TMZ ... the flag stunt was NOT planned or approved by WWE officials.

The WWE has just released an official statement saying, "Chris Jericho has been suspended indefinitely due to an irresponsible act of denigrating the Brazilian flag at a WWE event in Sao Paulo on May 24. The WWE has apologized to the citizens and the government of Brazil for this incident."

It doesn't sound that bad, it's not like he spat on it or set it alight or anything like that. I blame this on ignorance of local laws and a genuine misjudgement on Jericho's part.

Typical Jericho heel antics but I'm still surprised he went ahead and did it given the context. Maybe he got carried away I guess, like when JBL got done for goosestepping in Germany.

Yeah and JBL was punished with a 9-month WWE Championship reign.

I was gonna say that is extreme to punish him like this until I saw that this is actually a crime in their country. Given that fact Jericho shouldn't have attempted it given big of a deal it is to do that apparently.

Kinda have to at least suspend him after firing Finay behind a patriotic bs reason

Be A Star ain't helping him either when it comes to getting off.

Don't think Be A Star has any relevance here but the Finlay thing is a good point though.

Jericho was probably unaware of the crime. How many times have we seen similar things done in WWE rings all around the world including countries where it is illegal if this were the 80s or even the 90s they'd laughed it off.

I'm honestly not sure how much of this I believe. Jericho was set to do some Fozzy stuff this month so it's pretty good timing for a suspension, they could easily unsuspend him in time for summerslam. I mean serious an "indefinite" suspension over something like this something the police in the arena had him apologize for and then let them continue the show?

Can't wait to find a tshirt of a crumpled up flag to wear it'd be gold.

If this isn't a work and he stays gone more than 3 months I will be very...put out.

True that Primetime, also WWE say what Jericho did was not planned, so was CM Punk taking the flag in the ring planned?

Don't they always get superstars to take flags to the ring. When they show tour vignettes on raw/smackdown, face superstars are holding the flags all the time.

Usually it's flags from their own county, isn't it?

And did Punk bring it to the ring, it says that 'It found it's way to the ring', implying a fan may have thrown it in?

Edit - Whoops, just read the whole thing, oh well. Y2J was just heeling, obviously didn't mean to offend, but it's come at a good time, his stuff with Del Rio/Sheamus/Orton wasn't going anywhere.

Consdering that fozzy have a new album out later ths year and there doing some shows I doubt Chris will be too gutted, imagine he will be back for Summerslam

Althoguh I think WWE should at least warn the talent when there doing shows like this if there is any crimes such as this one as it's the type of thing a heel would do without thnking anything of it, if he was told beforehand about these laws he wouldnt have done it
