Nice thread, 21 Jump Street off to a good start and Rockys' movie is starting to drop although it had a very good start. No wonder he stays in Hollywood.

Another Eddie Murphy Bombs also. Guy used to be so funny before he started doing kid movies. Needs to go back to edgier comedies.

Excellent thread, I will be very active in this thread. I have been following the box office for a few years now and it always interests me to see how movies will go.

21 Jump Street had a fantastic opening last weekend, the promotional campaign for that movie was really well done unlike John Carter. I saw the trailer half a dozen times and I couldn't figure out what was going on, it is making money internationally but Disney already predict a $200 million loss on this movie.

I can't wait for this weeks figures as the Hunger Games opens, it is the widest release for a non-sequel and it has the third most pre-ordered tickets of all time. I am thinking $130 million for the weekend which would be massive. It is going to be huge worldwide and it is no surprise that they have already ordered the next two movies. Again the marketing campaign here has been excellent, the trailers told me everything that I needed to know and it didn't matter that I have never read the books.

I agree Hunger Games figures should be pretty astounding especially considering that most of the actors in it aren't really known for record breaking numbers.

It helps keep the costs down I guess, with all these big book adaptions lie Harry Potter and Twilight they went for unkowns to make sure they have plenty of money to spend on production and because none of the actors are stereotyped in a previous role. They did well to get Jennifer Lawrence considering she only recently received an Oscar nomination at the age of 20. I am happy to see Liam Hemsworth in a key role, always good to see another Australian making it big in Hollywood.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how well The Lorax has done. It isn't one of Dr Seuss' best known books and it is being released at a time when animated films haven't done well recently, $162 million so far and it should hit $200 million.

To enter into the spirit of this thread I think I will keep up to date and rate the movies in the Top Ten as I see them (in the UK so I might be a bit behind), thus the idea that I create my own top ten as
the year moves along.

Hunger Games earned an estimated $155 million over the weekend. That is the third highest weekend ever and the biggest for a non-sequel. Amazing result and it is even higher than the experts predicted plus it has very good reviews so it should hold up well next week. Looks destined to get over $300 million.

Casa Di Madre with Will Ferrell continues to bomb, I want to see it just out of curiosity of how bad it is.
