okay so for those who are a bit confused, here is the deal. Most retailers in Canada do not except returns or exchanges on Boxing day (December 26th) the company I work for being one of them. It ends up being the biggest shopping day of the year in Canada, insane deals sometimes, but the truth is, not nearly as insane as some of the Black Friday deals I've heard about, and not nearly as insane buisness wise. Black Friday for people who don't know is the Friday after US Thanksgiving, and is the United States biggest shopping day of the year. My friend who is the manager at one of the other stores for the company I work for has always said that the US has it right. Insane deals to create the biggest shopping day of the year should be before Christmas. Although Boxing Day always does well here in Canada, how much better would it do if people weren't thinking "hmm, I might have already maxed out my credit cards with all my Christmas Shopping" I think retailers in Canada should agree to set up the biggest annual sales day/week to be around the same time as Black Friday and Boxing Day stores should go back to being closed again like back in the good old days. This would serve a couple positives for the Canada. 1) by having it before Christmas, people would spend even more before the holidays. 2) by having it the same time as the US Black Friday, people would be less likely to cross border shop (and believe me we do for Black Friday.) and 3) People would be less likely to spend more then they can aford and stay out of debt.
