Big E On Almost Becoming A Member Of The Shield

During his interview with Cincy360, Big E spoke on being considered for The Shield and why he thinks Roman Reigns was the better fit. Here’s what he had to say:

I think it worked out the best for all of us. I couldn’t fathom now being a part of The Shield. I’m sure it would’ve been fun. I’m sure it would’ve been enjoyable. I think it was really best for Roman to be in that role as the big dude, the enforcer of that group. That dynamic wouldn’t have felt the same with me being there. It’s hard to fathom that almost a decade ago that for one brief moment I was considered as a possibility to be in that group….my route was definitely a longer one. It was a longer one getting to the accomplishments that those guys had years ago. But I’m glad for the more difficult journey. We would have not had the New Day if I was a member of The Shield. The Shield would’ve felt different. I think it all worked out for the best.

What a crazy timeline this would have been looking back at it now. It's also the first time i've ever heard his name being mentioned as a possible member, only other person I think i've heard mentioned was Chris Hero who Punk wanted, I think?

I could see big E being in the enforcer role in a Taz kinda way. Always just standing there, folded arms with a scowl on his face. Like he said, it all worked out for the best, but I don't think it would have been bad had he been part of it.

I just can’t see it lol but could be just cuz we are used to that not being the case. It’s just hard to picture it.

I can definitely picture Big E in the original incarnation of the shield but what I can't picture is how much that would have changed everything in the years that follow lol

Big E would've been a square peg in a round hole.

Chris Hero rolls would've been poking out of the flak jacket.

Never heard this before. It’s interesting. It’s not that hard to fathom as E was called to the main roster around the same time as The Shield and he was nothing more than “the muscle” at first.

Like he said, it worked out for all 6 guys in the long run but it would definitely be interesting to see

Yeah I don't believe for a second they had Big E going into the Shield. Punk knew of Dean, Seth, and Chris from their days in the Indies doubt he even knew who Big E was at that time. Whoever told him that might of been drunk or flat out lying to him but it would been crazy to see for sure.

I’ve legit never heard of E being considered for the group and I consider myself one of the biggest Shield fans ever

Thinking of anyone else in the group who isn’t Mox, Seth or Roman is just impossible at this point. I’m glad it wasn’t E cos like he said if he’d been in it, prob no New Day. Plus, I like Chris Hero (I’ve met him and had a pic) but I just don’t think it would have worked as well as it did with Roman.

That actually sounds pretty awesome IMO. I think the way The Shield turned out was perfect, but I definitely would have liked to see these alternate timelines with Chris Hero and Big E

Angle was not a full time member, he was a stand-in for Roman. I guess by that logic, Triple H was also a member cos he stood in for Roman at some live events in 2017
