EDDIE MURPHY TO RETURN AS AXEL FOLEY IN NETFLIX’S BEVERLY HILLS COP 4

Netflix is on a roll with starting production on almost a dozen big movies. Beverly Hills Cop 4 is one of these movies. Fans will see Eddie Murphy re-enact his role as Axel Foley in the highly anticipated sequel.

California’s Film & TV tax credit program revealed a total of 23 new projects to be filmed in the state this month. The list includes 10 studio movies, while the rest are indie features.

The list includes two other highly anticipated projects, which are Jean-Marc Vallée’s unnamed biopic on the lives of John Lennon and Yoko Ono for Universal Studios. The other project is Zack Snyder’s next sci-fi venture which he’ll follow up on after the success of Army Of The Dead.

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is set to have Bad Boys’ Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah for co-direction. Murphy was not ready to do the role until he felt that the script was written perfectly. The film has progressed to the point where the production is starting with complete assurance to Murphy. Eddie Murphy is also ready with an idea for “Coming 3 America,” but the project isn’t starting any time soon.

Damn we actually got some news for this, huh.

Can't really go wrong with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

After several years in development, it looks like the highly-anticipated fourth installment in the action comedy franchise Beverly Hills Cop is finally moving forward as production officially begins on the Netflix sequel. Deadline brings word that the streamer has welcomed the addition of Inception actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zola star Taylour Paige, who will officially be joining Eddie Murphy in the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop 4 film.

In addition to the upcoming comedy sequel, Paige also has two other high-profile films currently lined up for her in the near future. This includes the superhero film The Toxic Avenger and the buddy comedy Brothers. As for Gordon-Levitt, he will next be seen in Rian Johnson’s Poker Face series and in the sci-fi thriller film Ash.

The long-in-development fourth installment, which has now been titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, is being directed by Mark Molloy from a screenplay written by Will Beall. Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were initially attached to helm the project for a long time.

The film is produced by Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Melissa Reid, with Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic executive producing.

Kevin Bacon is set to star in Netflix's Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, starring Eddie Murphy in a reprisal of the titular detective.

The news comes just days after it was announced that the original cast, consisting of Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot, had signed on to reprise their roles for the first time in 30 years. The new sequel sees Axel Foley (Murphy) return to Beverly Hills once again to investigate the corruption of the police force, accompanied by his daughter and her ex-boyfriend. Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been cast in undisclosed roles, though we have a hunch they might be playing Axel's daughter and his daughter's ex.

Mark Molloy, best known for making short films for Apple products, is set to direct from a screenplay by Aquaman and Zack Snyder's Justice League co-writer Will Beal.

Bacon is no stranger to crime-action dramas as his Showtime series City on a Hill just finished filming its third season. He also starred in the James Wan action-thriller Death Sentence, in which he plays a grieving father who decides to take the law into his own hands and go up against a powerful, murderous gang. Most recently, he played the sinister leader of a conversion therapy summer camp in They/Them.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley does not yet have a release date, but the film began shooting in August.
