For me enjoying Star Trek Discovery and Picard these days it's crazy to me why I haven't seen The Wrath of Khan yet. Maybe it's due to me wanting to watch the Series first but I'm sure I'll get to it sooner or later. Armageddon's though first time I saw it on TNT I was in tears hard at the end it's one of the rare Movies like The Wizard everytime I see it I'm crying.

In my opinion one of the most intense battle scenes in all of sci-fi.

I'd also have to say that despite being a Star Trek film, a series notorious for kinda being extremely corny and goofy, Wrath of Khan is an extremely subtle and philosophical film about what it means to grow old and how obsession poisons everything.

Kirk tries with all his might to avoid the fact that he's getting old, and it takes the literal death of his best friend and everything he's known to finally accept that, yes, he's getting old; it's only then that he finally comes to terms with his age and begins to feel young again. Kirk reconciles with his estranged son David, who is finally proud of his father. This movie is about Kirk accepting loss and accepting that getting old isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Khan on the other hand, is a brilliant man obsessed with revenge. When he finally escapes Ceti Alpha V, he is given the gift of travel, a way to begin anew and form a new paradise for himself if he so wishes. Instead, he is obsessed with his vengeance on Kirk and it clouds his judgment. When Khan thinks he's won, his arrogance costs him dearly as after Kirk somehow survives and returns, he leads his crew to slaughter against Kirk. His overconfidence leads him to forget that ships can move on the z-axis, which allows Kirk to get the drop on Khan and inevitably finish the job.

So yeah, when my brother and I did a podcast on Wrath of Khan, we spent like two hours talking about it because it's such a deep movie.

"KHAAANNNNNNN!" One of the best endings to a Scifi ever. Also the Scorpian in the ear scene creeps me out everytime.
