This isn't really anything to do with current events, but I was thinking of the current Cena vs Edge feud, and thinking of how great their past feuds have been. It's really one big feud, that's been goign on for 3 years, with on and off stops and starts in between. For what it's worth, I'd say it's the best longstanding feud in WWE since 2000. At the very least, it's the best since 2004. Here's some others to choose from.
You tell me.... What's the best long saga type feud in WWE in recent history?

Taker vs Batista: This ran from january 07, after Taker won the Rumble, until May 07, when Taker was taken out by Edge and Henry, and injured. It continued in September where Undertaker returned, and lasted until they had a HIAC match at Survivor Series, which Edge interupted. It again reignited later in early 08, leading up to the Elimination Chamber, which Taker won. That was the last of this feud, which ran on and off from Jan 07 to March 08.

Notable matches:
-Batista vs Taker, WM23, April 2007 (when Taker won the WHC from Batista)
-Edge vs Taker, Backlash, Last Man Standing, April 2007 (Double count out)
-Batista vs Taker, May 2007, Steel cage (When Taker won, but Edge cashed in MITB afterwards)
-Batista vs Undertaker, Survivor Series, November 07 (When Batista won the HIAC match due to Edge's interference)
-Elimination Chamber, No Way Out, February 2008 (Undertaker won the right to face Edge at Mania)

Taker vs Edge: This started in May 2007, when Edge cashed in MITB to win the WHC, screwing Taker. Taker was then injured, and when he returned, Edge was injured, so Batista was put in a feud against Taker. During their HIAC, Edge interfered, returning, and forming La Familia, which set up the Edge vs Taker feud again which ran all the way until Wrestlemania 24. After WM, they continued to feud, which led to a Extreme Rules match at ONS, where Edge "retired" Undertaker. In August, Taker returned though, and they had another HIAC match, this time which took Edge off TV. That was the last of these two, as once Edge returned, he entered a feud with Jeff Hardy last November. It ran on and off from May 2007 until August 2008

Notable matches:
-Edge vs Undertaker; May 2007 (when Edge cashed in MITB)
-Edge vs Taker, WM24, March 2008 (when Taker wont he WHC from Edge)
-Edge vs Taker, One Night Stand, June 2008 (When Edge retired Taker)
-Edge vs Undertaker, Summerslam, August 2008 (Taker won, putting Edge through the ring on fire)

Chris Jericho vs Batista vs Shawn Michaels:
This started after WM 24, when Batista called out HBK for retiring Flair. it lead to a match between those two, where Michaels faked an injury to win at Backlash, where Jericho was Guest Ref. This led to Jericho calling out Michaels for faking, and they fought at JD. Later, in a match between Batista and Michaels at ONS, Batista won. Jericho and Michaels continued to feud in promos, with Jericho even throwing Michaels through the Highlight Reel screen. This led to Jerichos turn into "The Honest Man". They had a promo at Summerslam, where Jericho punched HBK's wife. They then had an unsanctioned match at Unforgiven, where HBK beat jericho to a pulp. That ended their feud, as Jericho went on to win the WHC. They had one match later.
The feud lasted from April 2008-November 2008

Notable matches:
-Batista vs HBK, Backlash, April 2008
-Jericho vs HBK, Judgment Day, May 2008
-Batista vs HBK, One Night Stand, June 2008
-Jericho vs HBK, Unforgiven, September 2008
-Jericho vs HBK, No Mercy, October 2008

John Cena vs Edge:
This started after Edge cashed in the MITB on Cena. Later, in a Live Sex segment with Edge and Lita, Cena interuppted and continued the feud. The y continued to feud until Royal Rumble, when Cena beat Edge for the title. Both then entered separate feuds. Edge vs Foley, and Cena vs everyone (lol), although they did have a match at Backlash, which was a triple threat along with Triple H. However, at One Night Stand 2006, the feud continued when Edge cost Cena the title. Edge eventually gained the title, and the two fought at Summerslam 06 in a match, which Edge won. They had great promos afterwards, including a classic promo with Lita throwing Cenas belt into the river, and later, Cena throwing Edge into the river! At Unforgiven, they had a TLC match, in Toronto, which Cena won, ending their feud for the time being. After Edge's feud with Dx, and Cena's feud with HBK, they met in a fatal four way at Backlash, which Cena won. They met again at the draft in June 07. They again met at the 2008 draft in June 08, and now have resurrected the feud, following Edge winning the WHC, and they'll have their match at Mania. This feud ran from Jan 06-September 06, June 07, June 08, and from Feb 08-Present.

Notable matches:
Cena vs Edge, NYR, Jan 06
Cena vs Edge, Royal Rumble, Jan 06
Cena vs Edge, Summerslam 06
Edge vs Cena, Unforgiven 06
Cena vs Edge, Draft, June 07
Edge vs Cena, Draft, June 08
Elimination Chamber, Feb 09

So, what's the best long-standing saga in WWE recent history?
Cena/Edge? Edge/Taker? Batista/Taker? HBK/Jericho/Batista?

My vote goes to Cena vs Edge.
The promos were classic, with two opposite characters. Both were semi new to the main event at the start, and the feud helped them progress, and the matches were classic. Plus, they can get in the ring at any time, even now, and you remember their history, and it feels pretty real, and you still get into it. Not to mention HOW MANY TIMES THEY FOUGHT.

Like I said, my choice is Cena vs Edge... Absolute classic.

The best saga? i dunno man there is a few, im not gonig to go into good detail like you did dude. I liked the rated rko vs dx saga and also the cena vs orton saga where orton punted Cena Snr in the head. Mind you the Orton vs hhh saga is developing into a good personal battle at the moment so i think thats my favorite. Just at these twos past with each other its good and special.

Anybody who comes on the SB on Monday night should know that I cream myself over Cena and Edge. Fucking Big Show ruined things.

I'd like to say Cena and Jericho but their 2nd feud wasn't that long. Jericho didn't even bring up how Cena was the person who got him “fired” from Raw. It was as if they both forgot or something. It was really a disappointing feud(2nd one)

HHH and Orton's longstanding feud is pretty cool.

I wonder if HHH and HBK will ever feud again. Thats a good one.

Top notch post Mike really...good shit.

Anyway, I absolutely loved the HBK/Jericho/Batista saga. The feud really took such greats turns and morphed so well over time. All the while keeping my interest and allowed Jericho to slowly grow into the great heel he is today. I also loved how it picked pack up later with the same intensity to lead to the ladder match for the WHC. Great stuff.

It's really hard to make a pick between that and the Cena/Edge feuds. Cena and Edge really brought out the best in each other and I think have each other to thank for cementing themselves as main eventers. HOWEVER...the current installment of this feud is IMO just about one of the most pitifully executed feuds in recent years. Especially since it's going into Mania looking this bad.

For that my pick would have to go towards Jericho/HBK. They did such an amazing job with that feud and carried the intensity all the way through.
In terms of character development and how far along the feud brought the two people it would have to be Cena/Edge. I don't know, I'm pretty torn honestly.

DX vs Rated RKO was a feud, not exactly a saga. Same goes for Orton vs Cena

The best saga was Flair retiring. It show cased MR Kennedy and MVP, it showed Shawn Michaels to be Mr Wrestlemania and the it led on to Batista vs Shawn Michaels fued which led to Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho. So there's my favorite sage.

^You've got a good point...you don't realize that was all one big fucking saga that just morphed seemlessly so many times.

I see what your saying dude and looking back at it i agree. I also loved the hbk vs y2j thing last year it was awesome. The matches the promos and not forgetting jbl vs hbk thing was a good old saga to. Now that was a good saga.

Agreed you could track HBK/Jericho all the way back to Flairs 'win or retire' storyline and that was defo the best thing of last year for me. (IMO Taker v Edge got a little repetitious around Judgement Day.... Still good shit tho'.)

Dispite all the smarks bitching I think HHH/Orton has been wicked over the years (I think I'm one of the few that actually rates the break from Evo' storyline and don't see it as a burial... We're still seeing the repercussion of his treatment at thands of Evo' in Orton's character today.).

I missed a lot of the Cena v Edge stuff, but no doubt that shit is pretty epic.

It seems these type of on-off fueds arre WWE's new thing and I expect it to continue where each brand has one main storyline running throughout the year... Long term booking... I LIIIIIKE it!

Majorly gutted that they took the easy option with HBK/JBL... It SO should have incorporated the Undertaker/HBK mania match and at least one failed bid for freedom by Shawn.

Old faves:

Savage vs Hogan,
Warrior vs The Heenan Family,
Kindgom Of The Madness/Dusty&Saphire/Dibiase/Rhodes Jnr/Virgil & Dibiase split.

(Some of the last one's admittedly a little bit tenuous, but I'd have a hard time splitting it all up completely).

Bret Hart is one of Canada's most successful wrestlers. He is also recognized as one of the worlds best wrestlers ever. Hart comes from the legendary Hart Family of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Shawn Micheals is one of texas's own and has captured the hearts of many women during his 20 year wwe career. He is a grand slam winner and has had loads of five star matches. Some of which was with Bret the hitman hart. They had a good feud in 1997, both had the edge in the feud and it came to a boiling point at Survivor series 1997. It was for the wwf title, and it was a good match up until hbk put bret hart in his own sharpshooter submission move. Vince McMahon was at ringside and as soon and hbk had the move on bret vince called for the bell and hbk was the winner. Obviously it was not the finish for the match before hand. Bret hart was irate that he got screwed in canada let alone at all.

Batista vs Undertaker was fucking terrible.

The rest are pretty tough. Edge/Cena gets an honorable mention for the way it started with the MITB, but it comes down to a tie for me. HBK/Y2J and Triple H/HBK, regardless of how bad their HIAC match was.
