This is a funny one. I find the Shining overrated and actually don't find Jack that scary. To me the Xenomorph is scarier. But to vote for it would break my rule about voting for non-humans. For that reason I vote for Jack.

I'd argue that the Xenomorph isn't villainous. It's just doing what it's supposed to do. There's no ill intent. Just like if a shark bites off your leg in the ocean. It's just being a shark.

I'll take your word for it, I don't remember a lot from the movie, when I saw it I had just finished the novel and I was a bit disappointed.

Great horror movie but the television mini series was a better adaptation.

It's at the beginning, she's talking to a therapist or something that came to see the kid, before the move. It's a passing line but stands out vividly to me bc it seemed like such a serious incident she was brushing off as nothing

Yes, it's more detailed in the novel and he's also applying for the job in the hotel because he lost his position as a teacher after assaulting a student. I'm also 90% sure that there's mention of him hitting his wife once or twice in the book.
He is prone to anger and alcohol just makes it worse, so he's definitely not a nice person. Maybe not a killer, but still not a good guy.

Unpopular opinion but I don't think humans and monsters should be grouped together. I'm trying to judge these on who's the bigger dick/baddest character, monsters are just monsters lol
