I will be continuing my 2004 thread!!! This is a separate project I will be working on!!

WrestleWizard Presents

Bell to Bell

"Welcome to Bell to Bell, a personal diary-style 'Be the Booker' where I dive deep into WWE’s pay-per-views. Instead of covering the weekly grind of Raw and SmackDown, I focus on what I really love—telling the story of those big PPV moments and writing long detailed matches and shows. Each post takes a close look at one match, breaking down the backstory, rivalries, and drama that lead up to the big showdown. Once I’ve gone through every match on that shows particular card, I’ll post a full breakdown of the entire event. Writing long, detailed pay-per-views is my passion, and I can’t wait to share the excitement with you, starting in 2003 with Backlash. Hope you enjoy the ride!"

The Final Chapter: The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin

After WrestleMania XIX, the wrestling world was left stunned as The Rock finally defeated Stone Cold Steve Austin on the grandest stage. This victory had eluded The Rock for years, having lost to Austin twice before at WrestleMania XV and WrestleMania X-Seven. For The Rock, this win felt like the ultimate achievement, completing his trilogy against Austin. However, post-WrestleMania, their rivalry would not fade away quietly. It became evident that their story was not over yet — there was still one final chapter to be written. The Rock made it clear that his victory over Austin was the definitive end of their rivalry. He belittled Austin at every opportunity, calling him a relic of the past, a broken-down shell of his former self. With WrestleMania XIX behind him, The Rock seemed intent on cementing his legacy as the greatest star in WWE history, and he wasn’t about to let Austin steal any of his spotlight. However, beneath the arrogance, The Rock knew that their feud was too deeply rooted in WWE history to end with just one match. There had to be a definitive end.

Stone Cold’s Struggles and Pride

On the other side, Stone Cold Steve Austin was battling physical and emotional demons. His years of neck injuries and the wear and tear from being WWE's top star had taken their toll. Rumors circulated that Austin’s time in the ring was coming to an end. At WrestleMania XIX, Austin was in pain, both physically and mentally, dealing with the possibility that his career might be nearing its conclusion. Losing to The Rock on the grand stage was a bitter pill to swallow, but it wasn’t the end for Austin.

Despite his health issues, Austin refused to back down. His pride as the toughest SOB in the WWE wouldn’t allow him to fade quietly into the background. Austin returned to Raw with a chip on his shoulder, determined to prove that he wasn’t finished yet. Even though The Rock was claiming victory, Austin wasn’t going to let that WrestleMania loss define the end of his career.

The Rock Taunts Austin Relentlessly

In the weeks following WrestleMania XIX, The Rock continuously taunted Austin. Each promo was more insulting than the last, as The Rock mocked Austin’s past accomplishments, calling him a has-been. The Rock wasn’t satisfied with just one victory over Austin — he wanted to embarrass him, degrade him, and make sure everyone knew that The Rock was the superior competitor.

On the April 7th episode of Monday Night Raw, The Rock cut a particularly scathing promo, standing in the ring and delivering a mock eulogy for Austin’s career. He claimed that by defeating Austin at WrestleMania, he had “buried” Stone Cold once and for all. The Rock’s verbal assault went so far that he said Austin should retire and spend his days sitting at home, drinking beer, and living in the past.

However, Austin wasn’t about to take this sitting down. Later that night, Austin stormed the ring and attacked The Rock, triggering a wild brawl that ended with Austin hitting The Rock with a devastating Stone Cold Stunner. This brawl sent a clear message — Austin wasn’t done, and The Rock hadn’t seen the last of him.

Setting the Stage for One Last Showdown

As tensions escalated, The Rock, now fully convinced that Austin was washed up, began lobbying for a final match between them. This wasn’t just about winning anymore — it was about erasing Austin’s legacy and establishing himself as the undisputed top star in WWE history. The Rock wanted their next encounter to be more than just another match — it had to have finality. He wanted to humiliate Austin one last time and end his career in WWE for good.

On the April 14th episode of Raw, The Rock laid down the ultimate challenge: a No Disqualification match at Backlash 2003, with both men’s careers on the line. The stipulation was simple — the loser would be fired from WWE, while the winner would earn a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at some point in the future. The stakes couldn’t be higher, and both men knew that this would be their last battle.

Austin accepted without a second thought. He understood the stakes but was fueled by an unrelenting need for redemption. This wasn't just another match — it was his chance to prove that he still had what it took to stand among the best. It was about his pride, his legacy, and his future in WWE. The Rock, always looking for an edge, seized the moment and struck with a vicious low blow, followed by a devastating Rock Bottom. Austin clutched his neck in pain as WWE officials scrambled to the ring, rushing to check on the fallen Texas Rattlesnake.

Mind Games and Physical Warfare

In the weeks leading up to Backlash, the mind games and physicality reached new heights. The Rock continued to mock Austin’s condition, claiming he was too broken down to hang with him in a No DQ match. He even brought props to the ring, staging mock retirement ceremonies for Austin, further pushing the idea that Stone Cold was past his prime.

But Austin wasn’t backing down. On the April 21st episode of Raw, just six days before Backlash, Austin shocked the WWE fans by ambushing The Rock backstage. Despite the serious neck injury he had aggravated it seemed like the previous week, Austin delivered a thunderous Stunner, leaving The Rock sprawled on the concrete floor. The attack sent a clear message: this war was far from over, and The Rock hadn’t truly defeated him yet. The brawl spilled to ringside, where chaos erupted until security rushed in to pull the two apart.

The tension between them reached its peak as Backlash approached. This wasn’t just about the World Heavyweight Championship opportunity anymore — it was about two of WWE’s greatest icons fighting for their careers. For Austin, it was about redemption and proving he could still go toe-to-toe with The Rock. For The Rock, it was about solidifying his Hollywood ego and removing Austin from WWE once and for all.

World Heavyweight Championship Steel Cage Match: Triple H © vs. Booker T

The rivalry between Triple H and Booker T was reignited the night after WrestleMania XIX, where Triple H barely retained his World Heavyweight Championship with the help of Ric Flair. Booker T, having come agonizingly close to dethroning The Game, was determined not to let this defeat define him. On the March 31 episode of Raw, Booker interrupted Triple H’s celebration, confronting the champion and making it crystal clear that their business wasn’t over. For Booker, this wasn’t just about a championship—this was about proving that he belonged in the main event and earning the respect that Triple H had denied him. Booker’s confidence and fiery determination made it clear that he wasn't about to let Flair’s interference or Triple H’s mind games extinguish his championship dream.

In the weeks that followed, Booker T made it his mission to disrupt Triple H’s reign of terror, becoming a thorn in the champion’s side at every turn. On the April 7 episode of Raw, Booker launched a surprise backstage ambush on Triple H, attacking the champion while he was vulnerable. The two brawled viciously, with Booker’s relentless aggression catching The Game off guard. Triple H, who had relied on Flair’s underhanded tactics at WrestleMania, now found himself face-to-face with a more dangerous and determined Booker T. This attack sent a clear message to the champion: Booker wasn’t backing down, and he wouldn’t let The Game walk all over him.

By the April 14 episode of Raw, things escalated when General Manager Eric Bischoff raised the stakes, announcing that Triple H would defend his title against Booker T inside a steel cage at Backlash. With the promise of no outside interference, it was the opportunity Booker had been waiting for. That night, Booker faced Ric Flair in a brutal one-on-one match. Flair, the wily veteran, used every trick in his book to slow down Booker, but it wasn’t enough. Booker T dismantled Flair with ferocity, delivering a thunderous Scissor Kick to secure the win and send a message directly to Triple H. However, Triple H would not let Booker leave unscathed. As Booker celebrated, the champion blindsided him, smashing him with the World Heavyweight Championship belt before delivering a devastating Pedigree. Triple H stood tall, making it clear that no matter how resilient Booker was, The Game always had the final say.

On the April 21 episode of Raw, just six days before Backlash, Booker T once again made his presence felt. Teaming with Shawn Michaels, Booker faced Triple H and Flair in a chaotic tag team main event. The match was an all-out war, with Booker and Michaels fighting against both the numbers game and The Game’s ruthless tactics. But in the end, after a no contest finish, Booker T delivered another Scissor Kick, this time laying out Triple H in the middle of the ring, standing tall over the champion with the steel cage looming. The roar of the crowd echoed through the arena, as Booker T looked to be on the verge of his long-awaited coronation.

As Backlash approached, the stage was set for what promised to be the ultimate showdown. Booker T, the underdog who had fought tooth and nail for respect, would face Triple H, the cerebral champion who believed he was untouchable. Inside the unforgiving structure of a steel cage, there would be no interference, no escape, and no excuses. For Booker T, this was the final chance to prove that he belonged at the top—and for Triple H, it was another opportunity to prove why he was, in his own words, "that damn good."

WWE Championship Triple Threat Match: Brock Lesnar © vs. The Big Show vs. The Undertaker

Brock Lesnar entered WrestleMania XIX with a mountain-sized challenge in Kurt Angle, but by the end of the night, he had cemented his place as the WWE Champion. However, the celebration of Lesnar’s hard-fought victory was short-lived. On the April 3 episode of SmackDown, Lesnar was blindsided by none other than The Big Show, the man who had previously toppled him for the championship months earlier. Big Show made it clear that he wasn’t finished with Lesnar, calling him a "fluke champion" and vowing to reclaim the title. As if that wasn’t enough, the same night saw the shocking return of The Undertaker, his eyes fixed on Lesnar—reminding the champion that their unfinished business from 2002 had not been forgotten.

The following week, on April 10, The Undertaker confronted Lesnar in the center of the ring. The tension was palpable as Undertaker told Lesnar that it was time for them to settle their rivalry once and for all. Before Lesnar could respond, The Big Show stormed down to the ring, and what ensued was a chaotic brawl between the three behemoths. Lesnar fought valiantly, but the combined strength of The Undertaker and Big Show proved overwhelming, with security barely able to separate the three men. Stephanie McMahon, recognizing the growing intensity of the situation, made a blockbuster announcement: at Backlash, Lesnar would defend his WWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match against both The Big Show and The Undertaker.

From that point forward, SmackDown became a battleground. On April 17, a one-on-one match between The Undertaker and Big Show ended in complete chaos when Lesnar interfered, using his immense power to lay waste to both of his challengers. The animosity between the three men grew by the week. Lesnar, the young and hungry champion, refused to be intimidated by his massive opponents. Big Show, meanwhile, sought to impose his size and power on everyone, while The Undertaker remained relentless in his pursuit of vengeance, eager to reclaim the title and settle the score with Lesnar.

The April 24 episode of SmackDown saw Lesnar face off against The Big Show in what was expected to be a brutal showdown. However, just as Lesnar seemed to be gaining the upper hand, The Undertaker once again intervened. Chairs, steel steps, and anything not bolted down became weapons in the hands of these three titans, and security struggled to keep control as the brawl spilled into the crowd. With bodies flying and chaos reigning supreme, it was clear that there was no controlling the sheer force of will each man brought to the table.

As Backlash approached, the stakes had never been higher. Lesnar, the reigning champion, had proven time and again that he could overcome impossible odds, but this was his toughest test yet. Facing two of the most dangerous competitors in WWE history, he would have to outsmart the methodical Undertaker and survive the overwhelming power of The Big Show. With the WWE Championship hanging in the balance, all three men seemed poised for destruction, leaving the fans on the edge of their seats for what promised to be an unforgettable, explosive encounter.

Glad to see the Triple H/Booker T feud continue into Backlash. This feud was perfectly built for Booker to beat Triple H at Mania, but instead he didn't, and he never truly recovered. Hoping you right the wrong one month later and give Booker the big win.

You mentioned The Undertaker returning to confront Lesnar which caught me off guard because 'Taker wrestled at Mania, so it's not like he'd been gone. Also Big Show getting a title shot immediately after losing a Handicap match of all things at Mania doesn't sit that well with me. He should have been built back up first in my opinion. I found it strange that there was no mention of Kurt Angle at all here, considering he is the former champ.

Taker/Lesnar part of this makes sense though, and I don't mind their rivalry being reignited for a little while.

I'm not completely sold on all the booking here (Rock/Austin probably shouldn't be happening again, 'Mania was the perfect ending), but the Backlash card is shaping up to be one hell of a card.
