Becky Lynch To Reportedly Be “Top Heel” On WWE SmackDown Going Forward

New SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will be positioned as “the top heel” on Smackdown going forward, according to a report from PWInsider.

The report noted that Lynch will initially feud with Bianca Belair, who she defeated for the title at Saturday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Lynch beat Belair in an impromptu match after appearing on WWE TV for the first time since May 2020.


In her post-SummerSlam interview, Lynch simply said, “The Man is back, and it feels good” before walking away.

Several fans on social media were critical of WWE’s booking on Saturday, questioning the decision to have Belair lose in quick fashion.

As noted, Belair told Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture after SummerSlam that she felt “defeated” but was ready to get her title back.

Lynch was announced as the last-minute replacement for Sasha Banks, who missed SummerSlam due to an unknown reason. It was confirmed earlier on Sunday that Banks is not injured.

Even though I really like Bianca, I don't think she's over enough to try and force the turn if you will. The only avenue I see them going where they might have a chance of Becky turning is if they go somewhat shooty with it, talking about how the fans were chanting for her during other peoples matches but soon as she came back, the fans are all upset and poor Bianca. It'd be super risky but outside of that, I dunno.

Weird thing is, both are kinda heely but I wouldn't be opposed to Bianca leaning more into the heel stuff though. She reminds me alot of Sasha where she needs to be leaning more towards the heel side as it works better for her.

Unless Seth was working to make it not be seen, he’s said he don’t wanna work with her on TV again, because their own air chemistry sucks. but he could’ve been working us so if it happens we don’t see it coming, but man said he and Bayley was better, and he’s right.

It's become a trope for WWE that oftentimes when they want to make someone a megaface they just have them lose and be embarrassed a lot until fans have had enough and galvanize behind them. It did work in Bryan's case, but that wasn't even by design, and in recent years when they've tried to mimic it (thinking Big Show, Bayley, Kofi, Gable, arguably Rhea and Nikki now) it has gotten mixed results at best. It's a fine line to walk there because faces should be relatable underdogs in many cases, but they shouldn't be idiot dorks who lose a bunch and often look stupid doing it. So I'll be curious to see how they play this one. Bianca definitely shouldn't be outclassed and if she does the bullshit where she continually lets her morals gets in her way, then this whole thing is gonna flop.
