FUCK THIS OPINION! Sorry, just read this part and everyone pretty much has it. How was the division respectable then? And is it just a coincidence that when people talk about it they only mention Lita or Trish? Sure some will throw around Molly or Victoria as well, but the division was 85% eye candy still, and Lita is more known for being with Edge than wrestling now. It got more exposure then because more of the girls were exposed and every now and then they'd have a pretty good match and very rarely a good feud, but other then that nowadays division is almost the same just without the sex-related segments. Take those away from that era and you'd have the same amount of screen time with the divas anyway.
To be fair Dawn Marie and Torrie feuded for what seemed like over a year and couldn't work for shit but got all their matches over at the time in way none of the other girls can

Honestly forgot all about that feud. I didn't watch too much SmackDown during it, but fuck I think that feud was like two years long.

Yeah that shit never ended. Matches, contests, stories, etc. They were mad over with it though. It's like how Stacy could get all the bs over like the phrase Testicles for fans. That generation had a stronger connection, even as valets, look at Terri for example

The thing about that era of women's wrestling was that there was more depth to the characters. Yes Lita was a sex symbol, but she also got accross with teenage girls market by dressing like them and showing that she could do what the boys could do, sometimes just as well. Even if I don't rate her as a performer, the character itself was a huge part in getting more females interested in wrestling. Trish worked very hard to be a good wrestler, which she did, but when she turned heel in 04 she became one of the most entertaining things in wrestling at the time IMO.

The likes of Ivory, Molly Holly, Victoria and Mickie James were not over in the same way, but they all had talent and could put on good matches. To me that is a pretty solid division.

I understand that there was and is better women's wrestling in other promotions, considering WWF/E had never promoted the divsion that seriouslly (at least not since the 80s) then it was a big step for them.

But how much of that was because of sex-related things? I agree with everything you're saying but it was mostly sex-based. The angles and characters were there, yes, and the crowd enjoyed watching the division more but people try and forget that was because we got a bikini contest every other week. They even had angle-advancing bikini contests, which was kinda cool.

I agree with all of the positives you guys are pointing out about the division, but that's all anyone seems to remember and that's my point. The division just wasn't as good as everyone seems to remember because it was literally just Trish and Lita (who are remembered more for when they were valets for Edge and Christian it seems), and then sex because hardly any of the other girls could work, and that's how they got them over. Girls like Molly and Jazz and Victoria barely ever did anything in the division, and Gail was only there for like 2 months.
