Bill Watts always pushed a black person on top doesn't mean he wasn't racist
Bill Watts doesn't have the history Russo does pushing the wide variety of wrestlers of color. Not to mention Watts was an older southern gentleman. The lawsuit against WCW originally stated no one of color was pushed by Russo because they were minorities and nothing could be further from the truth if you look at his booking history. Before WCW and afterwards. Same thing with other ethnicities. Russo's first duty on the job was pushing the Filthy Animals as well. Booker T and D'Lo still speak highly of Russo. Booker T thanked Russo in a tweet a month or so ago and D'Lo had this to say "For some reason, Vince Russo was a big fan of mine. He liked the things I did in the ring and he enjoyed me being out there even though I wasn’t the top guy or the World Champion. Given the situation I was in he liked my role and that’s why they kept giving me more time with it. Man, it was so great to be out there enjoying that ride as the company went from getting defeated eighty something consecutive weeks during the Monday Night Wars to where it went. Russo and Ferrara were responsible for that and for me being part of that…I’m still friends with Russo today. I could call Vinny Ru today and shoot the proverbial spit, and just hang out with him anytime. He has always been a good friend to me and my family, and I owe him a lot."
