During summer of Punk he had tons of BITW t-shirts around yeah. He was doing so well with merch at that point, but I don't think he drew any superb numbers or anything. WWE's faith in him with the way they booked him was how he became the draw he is now; disproving the "you need to be big to matter" theory Vince has.

Thank you so much! I keep bringing up this thread against Punk doubters, but could never find it.

while somewhat impressive (if you are reaching) you have to remember Punk was 1.) Champion 2.) Booked in the right timeslots and 3.) Working with Vince, HHH, Rock, Cena, ect. So yea, he is the 'top ratings getter' in that cherry picked timeframe, but anything less would be a colossal failure, him gaining should just be expected, not something to prove his worth.

That's my negative spin at least. I'm sure some fellow Punk haters will enjoy my negative tint on it :smug:

Punk's face run has been compared to Diesel's run with the belt in 1995. Which was not good ratings vice.

WWE still showed a lot of faith in Punk with the way they booked him. But it was the heel run who made him a made man.

He also worked with the likes of Bryan, Ziggler, ADR (isn't he a proven ratings killer lol) and others. I said above the booking and faith had in him was probably the main reason he drew, but it's still fact that he draws and impressive considering his look. I still think he should improve his look though.
