fucking VOIVOD bitch hell yes.

They currently have one of my favorite guitarists ever, from one of my favorite bands ever. Daniel Mongrain who replaced PIGGY. His old band, Martyr, was fucking incredible.

They are the band, for me, that kind of opened the door wide open to the more jazzy and technical side of death metal. prior to that my main exposure was things like necrophagist, which while great, I had a harder time really identifying with as from my pov sometimes its "technical for the sake of being technical" . There was also a Trois-Rivieres metalfest which used to happen yearly and we used to drive 3 hours down for the weekend as they were usually one of the headliners along with acts like Quo Vadis and Neuraxis. fucking good era of quebec metal.

Your statement right there is one reason Prog Metal and even Technical Metal is becoming a "dying genre" or one that no one wants to get involved in as nowadays it is pretty much "music porn" or "guitar porn" as some have referred to it. The older bands hand it right, and so do a few newer bands.

Hell I feel the same way about Grindcore where even when I was in my early 20s had already devolved to zero emotion or flavor . Just "how shitty can we sound n be chaotic n crap "

God, yes that as fucking terrible. That era turned me away from Grindcore for a while.

Yeah, that was bad as well though I feel like it is kind of coming back in a way. Early Metalcore was the worst about having breakdowns that were 2 mins or so long.

@Jeff Valley Driver Since you like Prog Metal, and I assuming you are a fan of Old School, I would recommend checking out this band. Also, their guitarist has a YouTube, and he has done topics about Prog and everything, which are a good watch.

Since Jeff has made get on a Prog/Technical kick now, since I was on a DSBM one, I forgot to share one of the best ones right now, and one of my top favorite current bands, Jinjer, who are just great and I am glad they get more recognized now.
