Walt Disney Studios announced today in an official press release that The Avengers, which is still untitled, will be hitting theaters for a May 1, 2015 release date. Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the sequel. The Avengers was the biggest comic book superhero movie of all time and the third highest grossing movie in history.

Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3, 2013 release date. Thor: The Dark World comes out November 8 in the same year. Captain America: The Winter Soldier comes out on April 4, 2014. And the last pre-Avengers movie will be Guardians of The Galaxy on August 1 in 2014. There is still no word what will happen with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie as of yet.

Not surprised to hear an announcement so soon. But let the plot rumours begin! (Thanos is inevitable, Daredevil or Silver Surfer & Galactus may be available to them too. Throw in the Guardians of the Galaxy and possibly Ant-Man and this just gets bigger and bigger)

Too far away but makes sense.... I hope they don't add too many really, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Ms. Marvel. Wolverine could be awesome and all but he shouldn't be involved really. Guardians of the Galaxy should stay away.
