To be the greatest of all time..

You have to be the total package.

You have to be able to connect with everybody.

You have to have a great run as a face and heel.

There’s only one guy that fits that catagory and that’s stone cold steve austin.

Austin was the total package, he had a great run as a babyface and a heel, he was able to connect with everybody. the kids, the smart Marks, and the hardcore fans, the only flaw in Austin’s career is his longevity, became the top guy in 1998 But it only lasted until 2002. But I’ll give him a pass he had to retire his neck issues were bad.

We have Owen Hart to thank for that. Stone Cold could of been The Attitude Era's version of Roman Reigns if he was a little less injury proned, and more leukaemia proned.

Austin failed miserably trying to be a heel, he was still cheered. You're right on one thing. Only one man had longevity and success as a mega heel and a mega baby face, and we all know who that is.....BROTHER!

Hogan really is the undisputed greatest. To be the most over babyface in the 80s and then to strike gold again and become the most over heel in the 90s. Hogan changed the wrestling industry TWICE. No one has ever done it twice, brother.

Someone of the following: Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart or Chris Jericho. It’s hard to determine a GOAT objectively but I’m positive that it must be one of these guys.

All were great world champions but never were needle movers. Hogan, Austin, Rock, and Cena are all a level above those guys

Hogan couldn’t hold a candle to Austin fuck out of here. And Austin’s heel run was great..

You make no sense what so ever. And did you really just compare stone cold to Roman fucking reigns? Fuck out of here. Austin was already over way before the Neck injury, it was supposed to be him and Bret at wrestlemania 14. And Bret was supposed to pass the torch to him.. but he ended up leaving and hbk did the honors, austin was going to be the top guy no matter what, nobody was ever more over then Austin.

You lost all respect when you said Austin would have been Roman reigns how dare you compare Steve Austin to that Samoan bum,

Austin was the heart and soul of the additude era, Bret or hbk couldn’t draw a dime, the company was lacking in ratings even when the additude era was taking off. It wasn’t until Austin’s won the belt at wrestlemania 14. That the tide turned.

I was obviously joking with the whole Reigns and Austin thing. Even though both are fantastic. But Hogan changed the business twice. He had more longevity than Austin. This is a man who headlined the first Wrestlemania and then 18 years later in 2002 steals the show with The Rock. A true legend

Truly there are too many for there to be one single greatest of all time

Austin heel turn was bad because...

1. It was at the wrong place and the wrong time, which was WrestleMania 17 in a hard fought match with The Rock

2. He looked out of place. Him joining the Alliance after being one of the top builders of The Attitude era was stupid

To me if he was never injured Triple H should have been in Austin's place. I don't who else could replace him but Austin was out of place

3. He had too big of a legacy to turn heel. You definitely cannot compare Austin's he turn to Hulk Hogan's. That was arguably the greatest heel turn ever.

One of the main reasons why they turned Hogan heel was to refresh him and his spot in wrestling. Some say he was becoming stale

Austin didn't need to refresh his spot at that time. He was just fine as he was.

So Austin's heel turn was just sour

Austins heel turn was underrated imo. Was it necessary? No, not really, but I thought he did a good job at being heel when I go back and watch it. His character is already anti hero, but he still knew how to get pretty good heat.

Hogan, Austin, Rock and Cena are definetely, categorically NOT better at all than those guys. Non of these four you mentioned doesn’t even make the top 5. By determining the goat we primarily look at in-ring skills, after that charisma, and after that everything else which falls into the category of less important.

Hogan was a terrible in-ring talent. I mean, there were literally below-mid-card guys who could do more things than him and do twice as better things that he could do. His moveset was very limited and unattractive, all of his matches that fall into category of being ‘good’ were primarily because of promos and charisma. Even Roman Reigns is significantly in-ring better than Hogan.

The Rock is the mic skills and charisma goat, no argument there. But still to make the top 5 list you have to be above average in-ring, which he’s not at all. Stone Cold is probably the #2 best in things Rock is the goat at, but he is better than The Rock in-ring. Still, Stone Cold couldn’t even lace the shoes of the top 30 in-ring best. Cena, out of all guys you mentioned, is the best wrestler in-ring wise, but he still lacks a shitload of skills a top 5 guy should have. His charisma and mic skills are on point but still quite inferior to Y2J per example.

We are obviously judging off very different standards. The OP said nothing about in ring skills. Hogan, Rock, Austin, and Cena were the biggest draws and made the most money, therefore they are the best. Wrestling greatness is based off perfomers coming to a town and filling arenas. That needs to happen before we can even consider the "in-ring" work.

If you have that opinion we are on a VERY different page here. From my perspective in-ring skills are always number 1 determinator, who makes the most money and who is the ~biggest draw~ comes as secondary because there are a ton of shitty wrestlers who have charisma and fill the arenas but are not even in top 100 overall(R Truth per example). So, we look at this completely differently thus we couldnt agree at all on who is the all time best. My opinion is that Hogan cant be even top 30 because he was quite terrible in ring, Im counting in his charisma and him being a big draw but cant evaluate his work any more because he wrestles way way below the mid card level.

Basing it off money, rating, drawing power, ticket sales, PPV buys is the only legit to rank wrestlers though. Its a pre-determined competition so in ring skill all comes down to personal taste and opinion. There are so many different styles of wrestling, so ranking wrestlers becomes even more difficult in that regard.
It's the only legit way in your opinion, or maybe in majority's opinion, but that's all it is - an opinion. What I'm talking about as in-ring skills has nothing to do with personal taste, it's weather or not you are able to perform a big amount of wrestling maneuvers in a right way suitable to one’s wrestling persona in all needed situations. It also has nothing to do with predetermination. Movies are also predetermined but to be a good actor you need to have good ACTING skills, not dvd buys, cinema streaming, personal fanbase or whatever secondary bullshit. Now apply that to wrestling, it’s the exact same thing. What counts is the ability to WRESTLE, PPV buys or filled arenas can’t logically make you a goat.
