Here's something I've been thinking about a lot as of late, are sport stars used as scapegoats for various things?

I was talking to a friend the other day (who is not a sports fan) about England's economy and said one reason the English economy is failing is because of the over paid footballers. I disagreed with him but I think it was a little small minded of him to blame a whole nations economy failure on one profession.

Do you think sports stars are treated unfairly in this respect?

Anyone more famous than the average Joe can be used as a scapegoat. People tend to find other people to blame their misgivings on rather than themselves.

I don't think it's fair or accurate to blame the economy on Soccer players but I do have to agree athletes in general are paid far too much.

If you consider the amount of revenue the athletes bring to the teams that employ them, they aren't paid that much. It just seems like a lot when you see their salaries.
