A pair of exciting match-ups have been added to the
UFC 172 card in Baltimore.
Coming off six straight victories since his UFC release in 2012, former welterweight
Anthony Johnson (16-4) returns to the Octagon on April 26 against top light-
heavyweight contender
Phil Davis (12-1, 1 no-contest).
Since leaving the UFC, Johnson defeated the likes of
Mike Kyle and
Andrei Arlovski under the World Series of Fighting banner. He was released from the UFC following a Jan. 2012 loss to Vitor Belfort, which was changed to a catchweight fight after he missed weight by 11 pounds the day before.
Davis enters the cage riding a three-fight win streak against
Wagner Prado,
Vinny Magalhaes and
Lyoto Machida.
UFC 172, which will be headlined by
Jon Jones vs.
Glover Teixeira for the light-heavyweight title, will also feature a
middleweight clash between
Luke Rockhold (11-2) and
Tim Boetsch (17-6).
Rockhold, a former Strikeforce middleweight champion, scored his first win under the UFC banner by stopping Costas Philippou on Jan. 25. Following back-to-back losses to Philippou and
Mark Munoz, Boetsch returned to the win column with a split decision victory against
C.B. Dollaway at
UFC 166.
The current UFC 172 fight card is as follows:
- Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira
- Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine
- Anthony Johnson vs. Phil Davis
- Joseph Benavidez vs. Tim Elliott
- Luke Rockhold vs. Tim Boetsch
