AEW Dynamite Preview for October 9th
This Wednesday night, All Elite Wrestling returns to TNT at 8pm EST for another action packed edition of “Dynamite”! Last week fans witnessed the crowning of the very first AEW Women's World Champion when Riho bested Nyla Rose, they saw Cody being tested to his limits by Sammy Guevara, and Jon Moxley made an insane return at the expense of Kenny Omega.
And who can ever forget the absolute chaos that unfolded in the aftermath of the main event when the unit consisting of AEW World Champion Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, and the debuting Jake Hager left The Young Bucks, Cody, and Dustin Runnels laid out in the wake of their onslaught. Now all sights are on Boston and The Agganis Arena to see just what will unfold in the aftermath of that assault...
AEW World Champion Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara vs. Dustin Runnels & Adam “Hangman” Page
The first match signed coming out of last week's mugging positions the AEW World Champion Jericho and Guevara against Page and Dustin, and stems from the video seen above. When the attack went down, Page was nowhere to be found and had very little excuse for his absence in helping his Elite brethren. Dustin, on the other hand, was right there to help his brother and The Bucks, even though it ending up with veteran on the receiving end of a Gutwrench Powerbomb across the ringside podium. So consider this a make-good from “Hangman”, as he unites with Runnels, to square off with the man who beat him to claim the AEW World Title and the young upstart Guevara. Dustin's head and heart are in the right place, will Page be the same come Wednesday night?
AEW World Tag Team Title Tournament Quarter-Finals Match
The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)
And so it begins...
The tournament to crown the very first AEW World Tag Team Champions kicks off in Boston with this clash of the Bucks and Private Party. The track record of The Young Bucks in tag team wrestling is historic, capturing championships everywhere they have ever competed and innovating the game at every step. Praises for their pedigree in tag team wrestling could be sung for hours, and many consider them the odds on favorite to win the whole tournament. Yet, after last week, one has to wonder where their heads are at and just how focused Matt and Nick can be on championships when it must feel like they have it coming at them from all angles. Now, Private Party on the other hand, are singularly focused, laser-like, on becoming the very first AEW World Tag Team Champions and having their names hung in the annals of history, alongside Chris Jericho and Riho, as THE FIRST! Isiah and Marq Quen earned their way into a full-time contract with AEW with what they brought to the table at “Fyter Fest”, and this is their opportunity to prove they are the future by knocking The Young Bucks out in the first round of the tournament! And waiting in the semi-finals, set for 10/23 in Pittsburgh, will be the winners of the Lucha Bros/Jurassic Express match...
10/16 World Title Opportunity On The Line
On 10/8, “AEW Dark” debuted as part of the official All Elite Wrestling YouTube channel , and offered fans an opportunity to see the bouts that were not part of the live “Dynamite” broadcast. As seen above, fans bore witness to Darby Allin defeating the legendary Japanese superstar CIMA in a one-on-one match, and now, in recognition of that victory, Darby Allin will compete in Boston in a match with World Title implications. This Boston bout will be to set the very first challenger for Chris Jericho's AEW World Title in Philadelphia on October 16th!
That alone makes for an intriguing bout, but the ante is upped even further because Darby's opponent on Wednesday night will be none other than Jimmy Havoc! The tensions between these two men have been ramping up over the course of the year as AEW headed towards our TNT debut, and now they will have an opportunity to tear into one another on national television with a shot at the World Title up for grabs. Both men have proven themselves willing to put the whole of their bodies on the line to get that win, have demonstrated the ability to survive (or perhaps thrive in) their suffering to accomplish their goals. Now Darby and Jimmy bring that mentality to “Dynamite” as they make their television debuts with, quite possibly, the biggest stakes they have battled over shy of the title itself! Who will move on to Philadelphia to face Jericho?
Singles Match
Shawn Spears vs. Jon Moxley
As you can read in that above tweet, it is safe to say that Shawn Spears is ready to get on track when he makes his “Dynamite” debut against Moxley this Wednesday night. After dropping that crucial match to Cody at “All Out”, Spears has regrouped and refocused, and is heading onto TNT looking to conquer the world. Moxley, as clearly indicated last week, is squarely set on ruining Kenny Omega at every turn as those two head to a collision at the “Full Gear” PPV event in November. Both Spears and Moxley are intimately familiar with the pressures performing on this level presents, so neither is going to be phased by that fact. It may all come down to which one is more focused on the task at hand, and if Mox can play by the rules. Based on that above tweet, and really based on Mox's history with AEW, that may be the one thing Spears is counting on happening. There's also a possible x-factor...will Omega look for a small piece of revenge on Moxley after having his head driven through a glass table one week ago?
Tag Team Match
AEW World Women's Champion Riho & Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D vs. Bea Priestly & Emi Sakura
A late breaking match announcement coming on the heels of “AEW Dark” has set a tag team battle pitting the Women's Champion and Baker against Priestly and Sakura. Along with the aforementioned Darby/CIMA bout on “Dark”, fans also witnessed Britt Baker emerge victorious in a tag team bout (with Allie as her partner) over Priestly and her partner that night, Penelope Ford. Although it was Ford who tapped out to Baker in that bout, it does give the Doctor of AEW a level of bragging rights over Priestly. To be fair though, Priestly (with Shoko Nakajima as her partner) holds a “Fight For The Fallen” victory over Baker and Riho. Sakura is also quite familiar with Riho, capturing a victory over her in a July singles contest in Japan, but also working alongside her on a number of occasions. This should prove to one amazing showcase of what the Woman's division of AEW brings to the table!!
These matches, and more, are coming your way Wednesday night October 9th when AEW goes live on TNT with episode 2 of “Dynamite” at 8pm EST/7pm CST!
