Gone, but not....remembered?

Hello,

As a woman, sometimes I ponder the achievements of my fellow gals over the centuries. You know, women that had a life, a life to be proud of. Now, I really admire wrestlers. I honestly feel that they are the hardest working people in sports entertainment. They should be paid a lot more than they do, but perhaps if they were, we'd end up having wrestler "cap" problems just like the NHL. But that's another topic.

Lately I have been thinking about our dearly departed Divas Trish and Lita and wondering what, if any, legacy they will leave behind. Oh, I'm sure they will earn a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame one day and everything. But will they leave behind a legacy of any type? Perhaps someone will say of them, "They were the best female wrestlers that ever existed in wrestling." But is that really all that great? Is being considered the best male that ever existed in wrestling the same thing as being the best ever female in wrestling? I don't think so.

Flair, HBK, Bret Hart, HHH, Hogan, Austin, The Rock - these are the names of individuals worthy of remembrance. However, "Lita" or "Trish Stratus" are not. And i think that sucks.

But maybe that is just the way it is in society. For example, what women's sport equals the fan fare of men's sports? None. So why should wrestling be any different? Well, maybe it could be different if the same attention and marketing and money were given to women's sports. Maybe if Vince gave more wrestling time to the ladies, more main events, more marketing, maybe names like Lita or Stratus would be just as appealing as names like Austin or Hulk Hogan. Maybe we would have a female wrestler that is just as exciting as any man. I mean, at one time Austin was a nobody "Hollywood Blonde," right? Those guys get popular because they are pushed and gimmicked until you just wanna breathe them in. Lita said one time that she wanted to be a "female Shawn Michaels." Well, that sounds exciting to me. But to be a female Shawn Michaels, you have to be given the same chances as the male Shawn Michaels. How can any woman become an icon if they never get any good, quality matches - and by that I mean prime time matches. Main event matches. I bet that Lita and Trish have been the only women in modern wrestling to get a main event - and it was a damn good one, too!

But obviously, Vince doesn't think very much of the women's division; to me, women's division just means "Tits and Ass Division." The women wrestle not to show off their atheletic abilities, but to rather show off their ass. Remember when the women's division consisted only of Trish and Lita? But if all you really need is tits and ass, they are good enough.

It's sad to me that Lita and Trish worked so hard, yet got so little recognition in return. Sure, hard-core fans like Jim Ross truly did appreciate them, but sadly their memories will just fade away into the sunset. Lita, she will be remembered as the slut that cheated on Matt Hardy and had an affair with Edge. It sucks that Edge successfully recovered from the scandal, but Lita will forever be branded as a cheating crack-whore. I can just picture fans sitting at home watching the Hardy Boys get inducted into the Hall of Fame, going, "Remember that whore that Matt used to go out with? You know, the bitch that cheated on him and had an affair with Edge?" ... "Oh yeah, she was a whore."

Lita says she feels she contributed a lot of "blood, sweat, and tears to the WWE" but I doubt she will be remembered for it. As for Trish, I think that fans will remember her with some honor. But either way I look at it, their hard work in the WWE will soon be forgotton.

Trish could never stand a chance in a WRESTLING match against Lita. Trish was always a bad wrestler and usually messed up a lot in the ring.

^^ agreed, and she was a manager for the first part of her career. then she got hurt, and while she was gone worked on wrestlig, and then she could actually do it, barely. lita was a much better wrestler than trish. and i agree lita, they wont leave behind a legacy, at least trish wont.

I don't disagree that women tend to be forgotten more in wrestling but I beleive there is one thing to keep in mind, the two women you mentioned Trish & Lita, just retired, most of the males you mentioned have been wrestling since the 70's or 80's. Its only natural that there names are mentioned when talking legends. Other then Moolah & Sherri which women have gone to the Hall of Fame? Wendi Ricter? No. Miss Elizabeth? No. So yeah women are forgotten I agree 100% but women like Trish & Lita are still mentioned on occasion right now and like most probably will be forgoten but hopefully will be inducted into the HOF in the same era as the males they worked with ie. Triple H, Edge, the Hardy's etc.

When I started watching again, Trish was Champ, and Lita was injured. At the time I only had what was on TV to watch. The night Trish and Lita got the main event on RAW, I thought they tore it up. I didn't see Team X-treme, or see Trish as Vince's whore, but I will remember the last couple of years and remember them for that.
And right now they have no other women even close to being in their class.

I think the only women that really deserve to be honored are: Chyna, Trish, and Miss Elizabeth.

Why all the Trish hate? I understand she wasn't the best female wrestler in WWE history, but the fact is when she first appeared none of us though she would ever do something in the women's division. At the very least she should be respected becasue she was willing to work hard enough to become a decent wrestler.

Lita was indeed better in the ring than Trish even though she was never quite the same (and rightfully) so after her neck injury. The only problem is that she'll be remembered mostly for the Edge-Matt saga even though its not something that should even matter to us WRESTLING fans.

So while Lita may be remembered for all the wrong reasons, Trish will be remembered for being someoen who could gone on in the WWE with just her looks but pushed herself enough to where she could have a good match when given a right opponent... And yes, Trish messed up in the ring sometimes, but then again, so does Sabu and Shelton, and a lot of wrestlers who have stepped in the ring before her.

Trish was a decent wrestler who always seemd to botch at the worst times.

Lita on the other hand was never a good wrestler. Never. She was sloppy in the ring, injuring herself on a number of occasions. Her stuff was never terribly crisp looking, and the only thing she had going for her is a decent looking moonsault. And the fact that her thong stuck out of the back of her pants at the time.

That's it.

Lita not hall of fame material. Period. Trish is debatable. But then again, I don't care about women's wrestling.

Also, please refer to my signature to see how much Lita does really suck.

But did you think Lita had wrestling skills? Believing one lady has a better physical appearance is one thing, but I don't see how a person could say Trish had good skills and Lita didn't. I could see a person believing that one lady had better skills than the other; but obviously Lita did have good skills too.

I fear that Lita will only be remembered as a one time member of the Hardy Boys, and hardly even a member. I think she will always be remembered for her affair with edge and how the fans all stuck up for Matt. It's too bad Lita left as a heel; maybe if she would have turned face, the fans could have appreciated her, but I truly doubt it. Lita really ruined her rep with fans with that Edge thing.

I will remember Lita's awesome DDT and the way she could moon sault of the turnbuckle ropes. I thought she was pretty good, and tough as hell, too. I will also remember Lita whenever I look at Kane. LOL

You have every reason to feel that way. Lita will indeed be remembered because of this and its a damn shame, it doesn't help that the WWE basically made fun of her the last time she was in a WWE ring. So again, Lita will indeed be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

And to be honest, there's divas who deserve more recognition that both Trish and Lita. You look at someone like Bull Nakano and Luna Vachon and these are the women who deserve the monkier of all time greats. These ladies could flat out go in the ring and if you saw their matches it didn't have a feel of a women's match, so I think they deserve to be talked about more than Trish or Lita.
