I can see it being a publicity stunt. As entertaining as TNA can be at times, they don't really get people talking when it comes to the actual product (for the most part). It's almost always backstage stuff that gets people talking about TNA (talent being released, pay cuts, getting paid late, Hogan leaving, Dixie possibly selling the company, "TFA GONE OF BUILDNESS" etc.
It's always been one thing I noticed about TNA.
WWE may be boring as fuck, but they are pretty good at getting people to talk about the product (even if they do fuck every decent angle). ex; Bryan winning the title/getting screwed, Authority, Reigns killing everyone, HBK/Bryan, Title unification, etc.

AJ Styles has been booked for his Combat Zone Wrestling 15th anniversary show on 2/8/14 in Voorhees, NJ. It will be his first appearance for the company in many years as he worked Best of the Best a few years ago.

There you have it, the first major indy company that AJ Styles will be wrestling for since (maybe) leaving TNA.

It is a horrible work if it is a work. Neither side is coming out of it looking good. Not AJ, not TNA. TNA comes out of it looking like a bush league company because they seeminlgy cannot afford to keep MR TNA on the pay roll. And AJ comes out of it looking like a bitch who came crawling back to the cross immediately. Plus almost nothing of this plays into the current TV product because of the taping structure. If they incorporate this into the TV product it probably won't air until January/february by which all this effort they have put into "working the internet smarks" will be for naught since it will be last months old news and all the news about him signing a new deal will have already been leaked.

All it results in is continuing to enforce the idea that AJ is nothing but TNA and Dixie's whipping boy.
It ain't going to benefit TNA, and its not going to benefit AJ.

It's not a work, why would they be "working" the fans with this? He's already not under contract in kayfabe and who knows what people are thinking? They've been better at keeping signings secret (nobody knew about Bateman or Madison Rayne, even though they aren't NEARLY as big a deal as AJ)

Wonder how much he's making in ROH? It can't be as much as his "bad deal" in TNA., can it? If they can pay more than TNA then that's embarassing. If they can't, then AJ probably should have taken the money at this point in his career.

You're underselling this from TNA's perspective. We sat through 18 months of the worst storyline in wrestling history all to put over AJ and give him the belt just for his contract to immediately run out. Failure.

Lets face it man, some things we just don't and CAN NOT know. Don't pretend like you know everything about Styles-TNA situation, because maybe only Dixie and AJ themsleves are the only ones who the real status atm. Kinda like idk.... Lesnar came back to WWE (or name somone else shocking) and NOBODY but Lesnar, Vince and 2 writers knew about it.

My point is we don't know details, arrangements and shit. As far this whole thing goes, it might be:

1. Work from the start
2. Legit departure that sees Styles and TNA come to an later agreement
3. (not the most popular one obv) do this whole thing to keep poeple buzzing about TNA no matter in what kind of light (and TNA needs that, fact)

This is about 2/3 of my POV on the whole thing.

- ROH signed him on pay-per-appearance deal
- AJ Styles is seeking $3000-4000 a night

Shoot, that's a lot of money to sign for one guy. Don't think AJ Styles will be THAT good for ROH's business (although it's the first thing to get the 2 of us talking about Ring of Honor since we joined this place, so maybe it's doing something right)

Thanks bro, finally I get some recognition. Smashing Pupkins frontman to buy TNA? That just wasn't realistic. However, speaking of another musician, Toby Keith (he's $500.000.000 heavy), Jeff Jarrett wanted for him to buy TNA, but that fell apart and is possibly the reason JJ left (in essence JJ being sick of Carters), now that was realistic to happen. When it comes to Pupkins frontman, he is slated to be involved in some future TNA projects, though. He's close to Dixie.

At this point, I am positive I can say that the whole thing about "sale" was way overblown by Meltzer and co. as what moron wouldn't listen to a potential investor, or a wealthy buyer? I bet even world's leading conglomerates listen to new potenital investors/buyers. It was just another case of DM going insane and everyone jumping on the bandwagon. When there's a serious offer, you listen. It's simple as that, simple economics.

TNA has not been sold, and isn't going to be anytime soon. Jarrett still has 29% of stock, Carters the rest I believe.

AJ Styles is an independent, non-contracted pro wrestler at this point. So yeah, anyone with the contract offer that fits both employer and Styles, can sign him.

I still think there's a slight chance, despite what the internet says, this ends up with AJ being back in TNA by the end of Lockdown PPV. If by Lockdown ending AJ isn't in TNA again, I think I'll be done.
