-Day 148-

Coming out of Double or Nothing, here is an update on some coming events.

First and foremost, obviously the next big event is All Out, which will take place on August 31, 2019 at the Sears Centre ARena in the Chicago subrurb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This is notably the same venue as the All In, the event that served as the catalyst for AEW forming in the first place. So fittingly, this will be the event that crowns the first ever All Elite Wrestling World Champion. The Main event will put Kenny Omega up against Cody Rhodes to determine that first champion.

We can also already confirm that The Young Bucks will defend their AAA Tag Team Titles against the former champions, The Lucha Brothers, at All Out.

More to come on what else to expect at the show.

But between now and then, two additional live shows have been added to the calendar and will be offered for free on B/R Live.

The first of these shows will be Fyter Fest which will take place next month, June 29, 2019 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The second will be Fight for the Fallen on Saturday, July 13, 2019 from Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. This second event will also serve as a charity event with all revenue from ticket sales going to victims of gun violence.

Stay tuned to AEW related YouTube Channels for updates on the cards for both of these shows. We expect to see more from Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Adam Page, AJ Styles, Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and more.

Among the names that showed up at Double or Nothing's Casino Battle Royal, not all are "All Elite" so to speak. Some where just cameos including the likes of Jay Lethal, Low-Ki, 3 Count, and Kishi. Others we may expect to see more of moving forward.

And perhaps most importantly, a television deal with Turner Broadcasting has been reached which will include a weekly primetime show. More details to come including name and when we can expect the show to debut/air.

“I’m not just a dentist,” Baker
told the crowd. “I’m the future of this division.” securing her place at the forefront of AEW’s women’s movement. yes yes yes I can see gold in her future

I do love the changes to the early MJF/Cody dynamic whilst still keeping them a pairing. Also MJF vs Omega way earlier is quite a cool way to establish MJF early in the same way Darby getting to give a good showing versus Jericho did. Women's trios match was cool and I do wonder who will be the first champion with Nyla or Bea fitting the bill best out of their trio. Mox killing Pillman was cool, realistic for early AEW to make it an extended squash as back then Pillman was seen as someone who had potential. Curious where the Spears pairing with MJF goes but like Best Friends getting a win early on. Fun main event and I do like establishing at least for now the Lucha Brothers are also faces. Very good start and I am looking forward to fight for the fallen

I have to admit, even thought it's only the Buy In matches, I hate the match result being written before I read the match. Always been a pet peeve of mine. really ruins the intrigue of the match from a readers perspective (imo).

What I don't hate is the Super Smash Bro's/Catrina stuff you've got going on here. Clearly a slow burn over the first two shows, but is heading to what I'm assuming will be some sort of Dark Order spin off. Either way, what you're doing right now here is working.

Jericho over Darby with no shenanigans truly shocked me. Not necessarily saying it was good or bad, I just thought at the very least that Darby would be protected if he lost.

Love MJF causing all the trouble with Cody and Dustin. Everything around this hit the mark tonight.

Jonah Rock monster push, starting with destroying Sammy and bagging Tay Conti please.

I'm not big on Janela so not sure how I feel about Swerve (who I love) potentially considering his offer. I'm intrigued enough to follow it through though, as you've built some intrigue there.

Forgot to mention how much I enjoyed AJ trying to plant seeds of doubt with Cody regarding his relationship with the rest of The Elite. Very good.

Considering they are the big change of course compared to real life, AJ and The Club picking up the win here was 100% the right move. A fun chaotic finish with the hype for Lucha Bros/Bucks and Page/Storm. By the way, the booking of Hangman Page to face Cowboy James Storm is incredibly clever.

A solid stop on the way to a bigger show, and that All Out card is looking damn good so far.

Finally able to drop ACTUAL comments this time!

First off, Hangman vs James Storm is a match exclusively for me so I'm 100% on board for that direction. Same with the Bullet Club war between OGC and The Elite, its one thing I felt the group never capitalised on their civil war at all. Lucha bros making the save is a nice turn as well, all good stuff here.

Cody and Maxs dynamic being a bit more hostile and less trusting is different. Makes Cody look like less silly anyway until Max earns his trust. MJF being a nasty wee dick to Dustin as well, good shit.

Darby losing clean I don't have an issue with tbh. At this point he's a unknown and he's in there with Jericho, him giving Jericho a fight on its own giving him the rub at this point.

Mox squash is a Mox squash, not really much to say.

Haaaaaa get it up ye Sammy, Jonahs someone I've always been high on so hopefully the big man gets a big ol push and runs the midcard. Don't know if him murdering Sammy is showing he's a tweener long term or that he just doesn't deal with any bullshit, but I'm locked in on seeing what's up next. Also Jurassic Express win. Yay <3

Man, Awesome Kong fuckin rules. I hope you give the woman a lot better treatment than they've gotten in AEW as a whole. Rose at this point was still green as grass and I'm not at all into Bea, although her being a cheating coward is fun with the Kylie Rae run in you had going on. But yeah, all in on Kong baybee

As mentioned, a very good follow-up show to a very good start. I'll try keep up a lot more!

FIGHT FOR THE FALLEN
July 13, 2019

[AEW Championship Warmup Match]
Kenny Omega
vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman

[AEW Championship Warmup Match]
Cody Rhodes vs. Hangman Adam Page
For me, the first two predictions are all about Cody. He has SO much going on, with ambitions for title, MJF being a snake, and the issues with his brother. Distractions lead to Hangman shocking him here, and then MJF will lose and be furious that Cody didn't help to add more drama to Cody's life.

[ONE MORE TIME - A Special Grudge Match]
AJ Styles
vs. Christopher Daniels
I'm here for the nostalgia but AJ HAS to win.

[Winner Advances to the AEW Women's Championship Match]
Awesome Kong vs. Bea Briestley vs. Nyla Rose
I'd be down for Kong and Rose to just go on a destructive run because they aren't in the title picture.

The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Pentagón Jr. and Rey Fénix)
Lucha Bros to maintain momentum heading into their big match with The Bucks.

Britt Baker vs. "Smiley" Kylie Rae
The dentist to put a hurting on Rae until Lisa Marie makes the save and sets up a future match.

[Pain Enterprises Open Challenge]
AR Fox
vs. Mark Briscoe
Using MVP to put over lesser known (in this universe) talents is awesome. Hoping Fox wins here, and I'm picking Mark Briscoe.

[Buy In]
Allie (w/Priscilla Kelly) vs. Shotzi Blackheart
Shotzi surely wins her debut.

The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) (w/Catrina) vs. The Beaver Boys (Alex Reynolds & John Silver)
The team with the cool new gimmick and manager should be winning.

Build to Fight for the Fallen was solid enough for a stop gap event. Looking forward to it.

AEW Fyter Fest - June 29, 2019:

It’s so alien to think back at the dawning days of All Elite Wrestling. It’s always been a curious one I have pondered approaching, but I feel like my graphics work could never do it justice. That and I am way too biased with my favorites, it wouldn’t be as true to life as I’d want it to be.

I like the layout, with the .pdf forming quite a unique presentation. Your graphics look pretty on-par with match advertisements one would see on a website. Still, we’re talking pre-Pandemic, and in a lot of ways while AEW truly found its’ creative flow in the midst of Daily’s Place and masked limited attendance figures, you have to wonder what would have been different. How would the company have evolved had WWE not released so many talents in April 2020? How may the company have expanded into new markets and countries, had COVID-19 not axed the whole thing?

You’ve already taken some nail-biting creative liberties with the signings of AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, Karl Anderson among others. That said, the nucleus remains the undercard crop of ROH/NJPW alumnus and young hopefuls.

That was prevalent with the Buy-In matches, with SCU getting the win over Private Party. Still very young days for Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen, but Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky were still very formidable in the tag team ranks in this period. I’m not sure about Super Smash Brothers being the gimmick for Uno and Stu Grayson - but it does offer a more fluid transition into what The Dark Order eventually becomes. I’m very curious if Brodie Lee will still be the Exalted One when all is said and done. I do like the touch of Catrina being with them, lending from Lucha Underground, some.

I never thought a whole lot about Priscilla Kelly before Gigi Dolin. Come to think of it, Gigi never really wowed me much either. Allie should still be active, and it’s a shame she’s not around anymore. I guess you have to do something about The Librarians nonsense AEW set up.

Pretty apt pre-show, akin to what AEW was capable of at this point in their existence. Very relieved not to see as much a gaming community presence for this show. No Alex Jebailey in sight.

Fun way to kick off the show with Chris Jericho calling out anybody, clearly vexed about the loss at Double or Nothing. Very cool direction to take things by the way. Wonder how that will help them out when TNT comes knocking…if they come knocking. The right guy won, but this was all about Darby Allin becoming established as an up-and-coming hopeful. It’s still early days, but I’ll never forget their AEW World Championship clash on an early episode of Dynamite around late 2019. The Judas Effect is still just becoming more established, so I expect to see a lot more of those finishing things this early into this run. I wonder what becomes of The Inner Circle? Can’t complain with Jericho being a solo act, though. No need for a faction without the AEW gold.

Cody being at the point in his career where he’s friendly with Maxwell Jacob Friedman makes a lot of sense. I do like the sound of Cody and Kenny Omega being the ones to challenge for the AEW World Championship at All Out. This was a fine bridge to Omega and MJF having a match at Fight For The Fallen in a few weeks. Really those shows were the TV pilots no one ever talks about anymore. Good device given you’re without television at this time. I do hope we don’t go too hard on Cody, Young Bucks and Kenny Omega having creative control, that said. I always figured this was why Jericho and Adam Page were in that slot for the AEW title.

Love me some Jonah Rock! As promising an asset as Sammy Guevara appeared to be in 2019, that star has seriously gone out. I’m past the point of caring whether Sammy wins or loses anything ever, I’d just rather not see him honestly. I think a team with Rock is actually a unique little thing he could do. Was surprised to see The Jurassic Express get the win, but they themselves are still gaining speed. I was sad to see Jonah already kill Guevara afterwards, but what this does tell me is that Jonah is rightfully getting himself a neat push in the near future.

I’m wondering how long it takes for Penelope Ford to go with Kip Sabian, if you hired him at all. A bit of an easy shortcut to debuting Swerve Strickland at the earliest opportunity. Dude was treading water in NXT and 205 Live at this time, but he was so much smaller back then from what I recall. Mind you, everyone was heckling Joey Janela for not looking like a television-made act. I’ll need to read more about this dynamic to get behind it, as it does feel a little off-cuff and out there.

The youthful women’s division was certainly a mixed bag, alright. A lot of pieces that were just awkwardly forced together. Awesome Kong worked all of what had to have been like five matches in her run, right? I do like Lisa Marie Varon being here to serve as a veteran. I also feel like Melina Perez would have been a good shout, as far as veterans go. No better way to stick it to WWE by using their overlooked 2000s Diva workhorses against them. It’ll do for now, at least. Nyla Rose getting the rub over Hikaru Shida was fine, but I feel like actually having her beat Varon would have maximised her heat heading towards the Women’s Casino Battle Royale at All Out. I wonder if Kylie Rae will last…

Having followed the main cast on Being The Elite on YouTube for so long, as well as Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, I remember so fluently being blown away at the sight of Young Bucks and Kenny Omega on a WWE-like presentation, filmed doing skits with professional cameras on live pay-per-view.

Brian Pillman Jr. has never really done a lot for me, but it makes sense why he was the fodder here for Jon Moxley. Mox is still very early into his post-WWE saga, and I presume has just become IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion in NJPW. Enhancement match really, but it showed some nuance of star potential in the youthful Pillman Jr. I think he just needs the right character and the right character motive. Really the closest I ever thought he was to being a star was when he was in The Varsity Blonds.

Was glad to see The Best Friends get a win here. I was always a massive fan of Chuck Taylor and Trent?, and their push in 2020 really should have led them to an AEW World Tag Team Championship reign, no matter how brief. Maxwell Jacob Friedman being involved in this match really shows how narrow at times the roster can appear, this early on in its’ history. Alas, it’s clear MJF and Shawn Spears aren’t intended to be a long-term story. Relieved that we didn’t have to put up with Spears lamping Cody with a steel chair…

The main event was done exactly like you could expect. I am surprised we’ve gone straight into The Original Club against The Elite before a hint of Dynamite on the horizon. I think AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows winning was the right move, with James Storm setting up his upcoming match with fellow beer drinking cowboy, Adam Page. Naturally I’m buzzed to see what original spins you have to offer with Hangman’s rise to prominence. I did enjoy Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fénix making the save to close the show, though I wasn’t as keen to see a respectful face-off between them and The Young Bucks, given their competitive history. I guess the heat isn’t exactly at that level yet. There’s still time to go, if and when we get the go-ahead.

All in all this was a sweet read. Very easy and formatted well, it’s a snapshot of a precise moment in the company’s budding history, and I enjoyed it as a stop-gap between big pay-per-view events. I do hope to see more from this, as I realise this show was posted back in May. Hopefully this feedback spurs something in ya to keep it afloat!
