AEW has filed to trademark the name of a potential new wrestling event.
According to records from the US Patent and Trademark Office, AEW has applied to trademark the name, "AEW WrestleDream."
The purposes listed for the trademark include, "Conducting entertainment exhibitions in the nature of wrestling events; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests."
An event with a similar name took place on April 1, 1991, involving wrestlers from WWF and Super World Sports (SWS). WWF Champion Hulk Hogan retained his title against Yoshiaki Yatsu in the main event. Genichiro Tenryu defeated Randy Savage, George Takano defeated Bret Hart, and John "Earthquake" Tenta defeated Koji Kitao via disqualification. Minoru Suzuki also wrestled on the card, defeating Apollo Sugawara. The show took place at the World Hall in Kobe, Hyogo, Japan, and drew just under 6000 fans.
SWS was a short-lived promotion run by the Japanese eyeglasses company, Megane Super. However, it is not clear if AEW's filing is related to 1991's Wrestle Dream event.
