If he went to the top from the outside after going through the middle it depends on what AEW considers outside the ring. WWE counts a wrestler on the top because it's not considered in the ring so that wouldn't be a legal elimination from a WWE Royal Rumble.

and to follow up on this. If someone goes right to the top rope and out of the ring, is that over the top rope? Like as a heel and kayfabe wise I love that he's doing this tho, no matter if it's "over the top rope." or not, I love when heels play shit like that up.

I don't think they've made an official statement on whether it was an elimination or a slip by the refs but I guess this title match kinda gives him credence in kayfabe?
