If you see something you want, always go for it. Don't assume she has a bf, and even if she does, don't assume she's happy and/or not looking to change. Don't play the respectful nice guy giving space bullshit. Let them know that you're interested and what you want. If you 'let it come to you' there's always a chance they'll keep thinking you didn't really want them that much and are just happy to be 'in it'. That causes problems down the line...

Embrace that which defines you: You WILL be truly happy once you realise that you are free to live your life however you want, do whatever entertains and pleases you, and be whatever kind of motherfucker you want to be. You'll understand when you're older, trust me. Do whatever makes you happy, and anyone who wants to tell you what you shouldn't do or how to live your life can suck our fucking dicks.
