Adrian Peterson's sensational season after major knee surgery has earned him The Associated Press' 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player Award.

Earlier Saturday, Peterson won Offensive Player of the Year.

The Minnesota Vikings running back finished with 2,097 yards, a mere 9 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's rushing record. Peterson beat out Peyton Manning, who in his first season as Denver's quarterback contended for a fifth MVP trophy. Manning's four are a record.

Peterson received 30½ votes from a nationwide panel of 50 media members who regularly cover the NFL. Manning, who also won the Comeback Player of the Year award got the other 19½ votes for MVP.

Peterson led the Vikings from a 3-13 mark to 10-6 and a wild-card playoff berth. He is the first running back to win MVP since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006.

The Vikings star scored 12 touchdowns rushing and averaged 6.0 yards per carry.

Peterson accepted his award at the "2nd Annual NFL Honors" show on CBS saluting the NFL's best players, performances and plays from the 2012 season.

Other notable award winners were:
1. Offensive Rookie of the Year - Robert Griffin III
2. Defensive Rookie of the Year - Luke Kuechly
3. Coach of the Year - Bruce Arians
4. Defensive Player of the Year - J.J. Watt
5. Comeback Player of the Year - Peyton Manning

What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with the players that were given these awards?

I posted his highlights in crayo's thread saying that everything he did this year was my favorite "football moment" after tearing his acl. What a guy.

Adrian Peterson absolutely deserved it. Blew away everyone this year and made an impact more than anyone else in the league by far. I don't particularly agree with RG3 getting it over Luck, however. The reason I think he got it is because of how he runs more than Luck and I bet this won't make sense to most but because he runs it shows his talent as opposed to the talent of the people that they are throwing too????

Well to be fair, Luck has reggie wayne who is a beast. I agree though on your point, Luck to me was the ROY.

I think AP had a tremendous season and personally I think he was the comeback player of the year as well. Obviously he couldn't be comeback player of the year and NFL MVP lol, but I think his story is phenomenal. He came back from such a debilitating injury and almost broke the single season record. It's a wonderful story.

I think the fact that Peytons surgery was career threatning, was why he got comeback. He couldn't even throw 10 yards after his surgery and missed a full year. What AP did was amazing though, 9 yards short of the single season record in rushing. That's phenominal.
