Abel Trujillo scratched at UFC Fight Night 47, Gray Maynard now meets Ross Pearson
With Abel Trujillo (12-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) forced to withdraw from next week’s UFC Fight Night 47 event, Gray Maynard (11-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC) now faces Ross Pearson (15-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC).
Maynard had been expected to face Fabricio Camoes (14-8-1 MMA, 1-3-1 UFC) at the event, but the Brazilian will instead be rebooked for an upcoming fight card.
UFC officials today announced the change of plans. Trujillo suffered an undisclosed injury in training, and a timetable for his return wasn’t immediately evident.
Pearson was actually a replacement opponent for Bobby Green, who pulled out of the fight with Trujillo to face Josh Thomson at July’s UFC on FOX 12 event.
Featuring a light heavyweight matchup of Ryan Bader vs. Ovince Saint Preux, UFC Fight Night 47 takes place Aug. 16 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The official bout order has not yet been established, but the main card airs on FOX Sports 1.
Pearson returns to action for the first time since a controversial split-decision loss to Diego Sanchez at June’s UFC Fight Night 42 event. It was the second consecutive bizarre appearance for Pearson, who also had a no-contest result in October when an illegal knee from Melvin Guillard forced the disappointing ending.
Meanwhile, Maynard is perhaps best known for a pair of legendary 2011 bouts with then-UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar. However, after opening his career at 10-0, “The Bully†is just 1-3-1 in his past five outings.
With the change, the latest UFC Fight Night 47 lineup includes:
Ryan Bader vs. Ovince Saint Preux
Gray Maynard vs. Ross Pearson
Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares
Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May
Robbie Peralta vs. Thiago Tavares
Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky
Sara McMann vs. Lauren Murphy
Seth Baczynski vs. Alan Jouban
Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson
