First, as far as I am concern, this year we might not have MITB.

But, talking about it, most of us have MVP as the favorite to win the match, maybe even Shelton as close second.

But maybe, just maybe, WWE gave us a clue on who they are choosing as the new MITB...

Kofi Kingston.

I mean, I don't like it, but it wouldn't exactly be far fetched, seeing how they are giving him a spot in the WHC Elimination Chamber.

So, do you think Kofi might have a chance at winning MITB?

I think Kofi is in the Elimination Chamber to serve as nothing more than a spot monkey. It wouldn't be the first time someone was in there that didn't deserve a spot. I believe in 2006? (correct me if I'm wrong) we saw Masters and Carlito in the Chamber..... I believe they were the last two eliminated before Edge won the title.
The guy has literally recieved about 20 seconds of mic time since debuting so I really wouldn't consider him a candidate to win MITB. CM Punk was a bit of a stretch, but at least he had held the ECW Title up till that point.

I do however thing 2009 will be the year we see a lot of guys thrust into the spotlight. I think we'll see MVP, Morrison and possibly even Kofi (if packaged right) recieve a nice little boost up the card.

But back to Kofi, I really don't see him grabbing the briefcase unless it would be to challenge for the ECW title. And honestly I don't think they'd waste the shot on ECW.
My pick for this year would have to go to either MVP (if he's not back in the US title hunt by then) or a returning Christian.

But as stated....we're still not clear if we'll even have the match this year. I'm sure we'll know via qualifying matches immediately following NWO.

I think there will be a money in the bank match up with. Rey vs. Umaga vs. Kennedy vs. Bourne vs. MVP vs. R-Truth vs. THE Brian Kendrick vs. Kofi Kingston. Mvp will win i bet you. I think he will win the us title from benjamin at Nwo lose the us title after he wins mitb at backlash. Then we have ourselvesa guy like cm punk was last year. And he will beat edge for the title. Answer me this question as well. Why is edge always involved somehow in the mitb case or match at the end of it all? Yeah hes a good bad guy the ultimate opportunist but its getting boring now the irony has gone.

Why? Well the first time was to give him the big main event push he deserved and was ready for, the second time was to help further his feud with Cena, the third time was that WWE needed someone to take the case off a supposedly injured Kennedy and slap it on Taker, and Edge was waiting, and the fourth and last time thus far was Punk taking the WHC from him.

Just luck I guess :shifty:

Lets hope mvp gets title off him then seeing is that edge loves to be the mitb center of attention lol.

I don't think we will have an MITB this year because the WWE Championship will be something along the lines of Edge vs. Triple H or Edge vs. Show. While the Ladder match of the night will be a blow off between Jeff and Matt.

But MVP will get a push this year, maybe winning himself a number one contendership spot at the event cause as I just said and I agree with CMS's first line, I don't think there will be an MITB this year.

Unless he changes his gimmick to Jamaican Voodoo-Drug Warlord I don't want to see the next "Blue-Chipper" anywhere near the MITB match.

Well suck it up, cos you aren't gonna get your wish on either count.

IF there is a MITB match you can bet your ass the Kofi will be in it.

What irony are you referring to? The only ironic part about the MITB/Edge was the last time MITB was involved in anything. So how can they overdo something they only did once?

As for the topic, Kofi Kingston is, in my opinion, a lock for MITB. He will more than likely be booked to stand out, and booked to be a close winner, but I HIGHLY doubt he will win. Granted he and Punk were around the same level when Punk won, but Punk has had a HUGE following from Day 1. WWE reward money-makers (current and potential) with pushes. As many have said, with Kofi's current persona, i can't really see him being a big money maker. Therefore, a change would be in order for him to be pushed.

Aye, I'd expect him to be booked similar to Morrison was @ WM24.

There will be a MITB. It's been one of their highest-rated segments of WM in recent years. The two faults of the match is the limitation on creativity, and severely high risk of serious injury. I think if they incorporated TLC rules to the MITB, they'd bank more on it.

I don't imagine an abandonment of the match by any means though. It's made the storylines quite enjoyable to be honest. The only reason it loses its brilliance is because of people like us on the internet knowing that a champion is hurt, so he's GOT to lose the belt, and the best way to do it is give it to the guy they gave the push to in the first place.

And the fact that every winner has won the belt... makes it interesting if you throw non-former-champions in the match, or guys who haven't held the major belts in years. Guys like Kane, Finlay, MVP, Kennedy, etc. It builds anticipation.

They wont get rid of it, simply because not every wrestling fan follows storylines OUTSIDE of the television broadcasts.

My money would be on Morrison, MVP, or Shelton before Kofi.

Personally, I think the MITB contract should go to a heel, that way they can get cheap heat when they screw over a babyface.

On a side note, I hated how Punk cashed in his last year. Did the WWE forget he was a face. He should have done the honorable thing and challenged some one face to face. If the WWE didn't think he was credible enough to beat any of the current world champs then they should have either built him up, or not put the contract on him.

I thought the same, I'm personally an Edge fan, have been since his first appearance with the Brood. I was quite pissed to see Punk take a "heel" roll with his MITB... but the irony of it happening to the Ultimate Opportunist kind of paid off... almost as if Karma paid Edge back for everything he'd done up to that point. Besides, they wanted to cross the belt over to the opposite brand, and seeing as both Champions were on SmackDown at the time, Punk HAD to take the belt then and there. I hope they don't use it as an insurance policy in the draft again though.

I'd like to see it defended fairly for once though... put some high stakes to it. Don't do like Kennedy vs. Edge to sell a storyline/injury. Do like RVD did against Shelton Benjamin for the IC belt. That's how to make the MITB Briefcase worth something.
