Since this is a new year, I'm making a thread dedicated to the deceased celebrities, sports figures, politicians, and so on.

ESPN has announced earlier that former NBA Commissioner David Stern has died as a result of a brain hemorrhage. He was 77 years old.

He rejuvenated the NBA to unprecedented levels for 30 years. Some may not like some of his decisions, but much respect for what he's done to the NBA by making it a global phenomenon.

RIP

EDITED: Dang. Already been posted in the NBA Discussion Thread.

I think the worst death for me celebrity/sports wise was Dave Mirra. I just know I was stayin' up late, drinkin', watchin' some SportsCenter and all of sudden I see on the ticker that he blew his head off his truck.

Fuck, I remember watchin' him hit that first double backflip live. God damn...

I could go on about wrestlers too but we always have individual threads for that here.

TMZ broke the news that Rush drummer Neil Peart has passed away at age 67, due to brain cancer.

One of the most skilled, versatile drummers who ever lived. He'll forever be missed.

RIP

I love Rush, and Neil Peart is the greatest drummer off all time.

This one hurts, I met him once....he was riding his dirt bike cross country after hsi fpdaughter died and I knew that, he was just gassing up and I didn't want to be one those guys and I just asked if I could shake his hand.

He obliged and we just nodded to each other and we went our separate ways.

Rush won't sound the same after this one.

RUSH is easily in my top 20 bands all time and it has so much to do with Peart's style of drumming.

This one hurts.

Fuck this sucks, his drumming was the best part of Rush which is crazy because they were such a great band over all. There's just so many of their songs that the drum beat is the most memorable part and I can pinpoint so many of them.

"Monty Python" star Terry Jones has died aged 77, Britain's PA Media news agency has reported, citing his agent.

Jones was a member of the much-loved British comedy group and also directed a number of its most popular films, including "Life of Brian" and "The Meaning of Life."

In recent years he had battled primary progressive aphasia, a rare form of dementia that affects speech. He died on Saturday evening with his wife by his side, his family said in a statement.

"Over the past few days his wife, children, extended family and many close friends have been constantly with Terry as he gently slipped away at his home in North London," the statement said.

"We have all lost a kind, funny, warm, creative and truly loving man whose uncompromising individuality, relentless intellect and extraordinary humour has given pleasure to countless millions across six decades."

Jones was known for playing a variety of roles in the surrealistic comedy troupe, including a number of female characters, and uttered perhaps its most famous line -- "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!" -- while playing Brian's mother in their classic 1979 satire on religion.

He went on to write historical non-fiction books and hosted several documentaries after the group split up in the 1980s, and wrote the screenplay to the 1986 fantasy film "Labyrinth," starring David Bowie.

"His work with Monty Python, his books, films, television programmes, poems and other work will live on forever, a fitting legacy to a true polymath," the statement added. "We hope that this disease will one day be eradicated entirely."
The world of entertainment paid tribute to Jones on Wednesday.

Actor and comedian Stephen Fry tweeted: "Farewell, Terry Jones. The great foot has come down to stamp on you. My god what pleasure you gave, what untrammelled joy and delight. What a wonderful talent, heart and mind."

Jones' "Monty Python" co-star, Michael Palin, told PA: "Terry was one of my closest, most valued friends. He was kind, generous, supportive and passionate about living life to the full."

Man, this one hurts... Terry Jones was such a good man, it made me sad to hear what he had to go through the last few years of his life...

We are not even 2 months in to 2020 and it’s already been a crazy start.....each time older celebrities die, I fucking legit fear for Sean Connery. I don’t care if people think I’m some kind of psycho, but, I google him often just to see if there has been any news about him even just stepping outside his home to grab the morning paper. I’m scared of the day that he is in the news, omg, just thinking about it shoots my anxiety in to gear. He’s been my old man boo forever. I was really young when I saw Goldfinger and he’s been my boyfriend since.

i’m crying:cry

All I can think of when he dies, is one of the greatest quotes he ever uttered:

"Junior... let it go..."

My favorite episode of Inside the Actors Studio is the one with The Simpsons voice actors, tbh it’s probably the only episode I ever watched in full.

RIP James Lipton
