There has been a lot of talk about how Buy Rates are everything. I figured I would come up with the list of all of WWE's 2011-2012 PPV Buy Rates, and what main evented those events. The event that drew more will be in green. Red is the lowest out of both years.

2011 Royal Rumble - 446,000
Main Evented by 2011 Royal Rumble, won by Alberto Del Rio

2012 Royal Rumble - 443,000
Main Evented by 2012 Royal Rumble, won by Sheamus.

----

2011 Elimination Chamber -199,000
Main evented by Elimination Chamber for WWE title match at WrestleMania:
John Cena defeated CM Punk, John Morrison, King Sheamus, Randy Orton, and R-Truth

2012 Elimination Chamber -
178,000
Main Evented by John Cena vs. Kane in an Ambulance match.

-----

2011 WrestleMania -
1,059,000
Main Evented by WWE Championship The Miz vs. John Cena

2012 WrestleMania - 1,217,000
Main Evented by Rock vs. Cena

-----

2011 Extreme Rules - 209,000
Main Evented by Triple Threat Steel Cage for the WWE title: John Cena vs. The Miz vs. John Morrison

2012 Extreme Rules - 263,000
Main Evented by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

-----

2011 Over the Limit - 140,000
Main Evented by I quit match for the WWE title: John Cena vs. The Miz

2012 Over the Limit - 167,000

------

2011 Capitol Punishment -
170,000
Main Evented by WWE title John Cena vs. R-Truth

2012 No Way Out - 194,000
Main Evented by Steel Cage match John Cena vs. The Big Show

------

2011 Money in the Bank - 195,000
Main Evented by John Cena vs. CM Punk - WWE Title

2012 Money in the Bank -
188,000 buys
Main Evented by Money in the Bank Match:
John Cena defeated Kane, Chris Jericho, Big Show and The Miz

------

2011 SummerSlam -
296,000
Main Evented by CM Punk vs. John Cena - WWE Title, Triple H as Referee

2012 SummerSlam - 358,000
Main Evented by Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H

------

2011 Night of Champions -
161,000
Main Evented by CM Punk vs. Triple H

2012 - 189,000
Main Evented by John Cena vs CM Punk - WWE Title

------

2011 Hell in a Cell -
182,000
Main Evented by Triple Threat Hell in a Cell for WWE Title: Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk vs. John Cena

2012 Hell in a Cell - 200,000
Main Evented by Hell in a Cell for WWE title - Ryback vs. CM Punk

------

2011 Survivor Series - 281,000
Main Evented by Cena and Rock vs. Truth and Miz

2012 Survivor Series -
212,000
Main Evented by WWE Title Triple Threat: Ryback vs. CM Punk vs. John Cena

------

2011 TLC -
179,000
Main Evented by Triple Threat TLC for the WWE Title: CM Punk vs. The Miz vs. Alberto Del Rio

2012 TLC - (Not released yet)
Main Evented by John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler - Ladder Match

Out of 12 PPV's, the 2012 PPV's drew more then 2011's Seven Times, and 2011 drew more then 2012 on 4 occasions. The TLC PPV is still yet to be determined. Both years, the Over The Limit PPV has been the lowest buy rates. Thought this may be interesting to some people.

Eh nothing out of the ordinary really.

Given the lack of depth to the roster then you generally expect the buys to be down on the previous year unless it has a true star attraction like Rock/Cena Brock/Cena Brock/HHH etc. Obviously there's going to be times when the normal roster might draw better than the previous year if they've put on a card that's either well built or just flat out intriguing like Ryback/Punk was.

I wouldn't say that buyrates are everything but they are a major money spinner for a wrestling company and they can produce huge profit margins if done right. WWE has done well with making the most out of their special attractions in 2012 to keep the buyrates up over 2011. Considering the price of PPVs in the US, especially with a $10 surcharge for HD, these are impressive numbers. Over The Limit is just the worst positioned PPV and I doubt that they would be able to find a PPV that excels at that time of year. It follows four big PPVs and is the first real nothing PPV of the year so it doesn't surprise me that it is consistently outperformed.

Agree on Troy's point about Over the Limit, also maybe not having a special gimmick attraction like Extreme Rules or EC might be a factor.

As a whole would say there was more freshness to the lineups in 2012 and the impact of the likes of Lesnar and The Rock were obveriously a big thing. Also think the Bryan/AJ/Punk triagle was a big hit last year, and Punk/Cena at the start of summer 2011 made things more cutting edge and unpredictable.

So buyrates are up this year. See how these part timers are effecting the product.

Argument over.
