For the record, I'm not even an Atheist. I think agnostic would describe me better, and honestly I don't find the belief in a higher power all THAT silly. I just don't think it's a "man in the sky" or "Ra" or "Zeus" and the likes.

I think that's a odd misconception that Christians have made about god. I mean if you honestly think their's just a guy sitting on a cloud telling people what's good and bad then of course that would seem stupid. I don't think god is anything like a human and that could just be an insult if you call any god. a "man" as in a "Human."

There are hate crimes from non religious vs religious groups, but i'm sure it was well deserved. Religions persecute the fuck out of people in the name of their god.
