‘Minecraft’ Coming To The Big Screen As Warner Bros Acquires Rights

Minecraft, one of the hottest video game franchises in the market today, is going to be made into a major motion picture. Warner Bros. just acquired the rights to the wildly popular game from Swedish indie developer Mojang AB (mojang means “gadgetâ€￾ in Swedish). The property already is getting huge interest from writers and filmmakers as Warners is putting together a live-action version. Roy Lee is going to produce Minecraft via his Vertigo Entertainment production company along with Jill Messick (Mean Girls and Mean Moms) who will also produce in some capacity. Lee produced the megahit The Lego Movie with Dan Lin which launched a franchise for Warner Bros and a sequel is planned. Jon Berg is the executive in charge at the studio. CAA brokered the deal for the film rights.

I can see this being horrible but who know. I hate most Video Game movies as they are garbage. I wished they would use some of the actual story in the games to get them over and make a correct film. I could be wrong on this one though.

That is the scary part and why I am worried it will be terrible just like Need for Speed.

I suppose they could go on some epic quest to defeat the Ender Dragon, and get into some wacky shenanigans along the way?

I'm as sceptic as I am for the Lego movie but look how great that's doing! Obviously helped get this the push for production as well.

How the hell they gonna do this and why? Money I guess, but a game like Minecraft, that looks like Minecraft, with no sort of story or purpose outside of building shit as a movie? I guess if they really put an emphasis on the survival aspect and make it almost a sort of zombie movie that would be something, would probably be terrible and I don't know where the building would come in but it'd be something.

Swinny, they made a Lego movie. Do Legos have a story? With the money and praise they got from that, of course they're going to cash in on all the Minecraft love.

Can I just hope that they can make a decent film. I also wouldn't mind it if they tried to film it like it looks in the game, sort of how they did the Lego movie, but I do understand where Swinny is coming from.
