    There's your answer. I'm also partial to Eastwood's "Tightrope", which is a pretty big departure for him character-wise. Other good cop movies I'd recommend on the serious side would be Cop, Heat, Infernal Affairs (and Infernal Affairs II), Outland (cop in space still counts), To Live and Die...
