    we've been doing some studies at uni about it all. Up until 1982....NINETY EIGHTY TWO, a child of Aboriginal decent, who looked 'dirty' could be kicked out of school if someone (child, office, teacher, parent) decided that they didn't want a "black" child in their classroom.

    iirc May 17th has been discussed as that's the date in 1901 when all of the colonies signed the federation act to actually become a nation

    Jan 26th isn't inclusive of all down here. It was chosen as 'Australia Day' back in 1993/94, but it's also the date where the First Fleet landed in Port Botany to begin the "settlement" of the land. So, naturally, there is some division to the actual date
