Like take us out of it, other cultures get into this themselves with each other lol

White people need some equal equivalent of every situation which doesn't really work when we're operating on hundreds of years of inequality. There's no math A=B for what's offensive to each culture

yeah lol just being offended by the double standard never wins sympathy for me. Then they try and lie and say they were really hurt by it and can't keep a straight face. It's why it's harder to be upset about it for me, and then of course bc I'm also the target and just don't feel offense lol

If white people do want a little more freedom to joke about others, they probably shouldn't go super defensive and try and stop it when people do it about them I guess tho. The more it's normalized for one, it probably will end up creeping back in for everyone. But ending it all could be it

There's definitely a subset of the PC warriors that always struck me as being just as scared of celebrating these cultures they were worried about offending too and that rubbed me the wrong way

I always got super annoyed when people facing consequences for something they said yesterday was grouped in with people being canceled for old tweets or black face 15 years ago. You had to think all was good or bad

I would recommend no one be painting their skin color for a costume and that includes painting white lol but old pics of people doing it I've never given a fuck about, unless it was the real minstrel stuff.

the clever ones just figure out which ones people aren't offended by bc of double standards. The Italians get it like crazy now bc it's deemed fine lol

But I think a lot of people also don't acknowledge that the most frivolous of those examples almost never get off the ground lol you just see people upset about it but at worst it just results in a half ass apology and no consequences but then we have to be distracted debating what words are bad...

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

it got to the point where acknowledging any stereotype even if it wasn't offensive to the people were seen as just as bad as making actual hateful remarks
  13. Chris

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

There's been plenty others I've been told (usually by other white people) are offensive and it just doesn't seem to me that people of those cultures think that lol
  14. Chris

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

There's been words I didn't know were actual slurs bc I wasn't aware of the origin and hadn't been around anyone it actually affected, made sense to me, I stopped using those words

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

I haven't been burned yet by looking at each individual situation and deciding if I agree with the people saying not to use a word or phrase at least

So you just end up with these hard rules
  17. Chris

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

the internet has made people terrified to admit they're biased about anything even though having an opinion at all is your bias lol
  18. Chris

General Chit-Chat Thread: A New Beginning

to me it's easy, I really don't understand why it's hard for so many people lol just look at the context and intentions, they can say the wrong and offensive words, but the actual meaning of what they're saying isn't even always hateful and it can even be progressive for the time. Then others...
