NWPW Announces Week 1 Matchups for the 2026 Middleweight Grand Prix

Long Beach & Amarillo Set to Host Opening Round Bouts Live on Amazon Prime

Las Vegas, NV — New World Pro-Wrestling (NWPW)
is proud to announce the official opening-round matchups for Week 1 of the 2026 Middleweight Grand Prix, the eight-man global tournament that will crown the inaugural NWA Middleweight Champion at SuperClash, live February 14, 2026, from Madison Square Garden on Amazon Prime PPV.

The Grand Prix launches across two major broadcasts: Battle: Long Beach on January 6 and Thursday Night Fights: Amarillo on January 8.

BATTLE: LONG BEACH

Saturday, January 6, 2026

Walter Pyramid — Long Beach, California
LIVE on Amazon Prime

The road to Madison Square Garden begins on the West Coast with two marquee tournament bouts featuring international icons and fierce American contenders.

• Andrade El Idolo vs. Karl Fredericks

A blockbuster opening-round clash. Andrade El Idolo returns to the U.S. with championship aspirations, bringing unmatched agility and precision. Karl Fredericks enters Long Beach with momentum and a point to prove — refusing to let this Grand Prix be a coronation for anyone but himself. A high-intensity tone-setter for the entire tournament.

• Santos Escobar vs. Trent Seven

A collision of elite ring generals. Santos Escobar’s hybrid Lucha style meets Trent Seven’s bruising British strength and veteran savvy. Both men have the skill — and ego — to take over this bracket, making this one of the most unpredictable matchups of the opening week.

THURSDAY NIGHT FIGHTS: AMARILLO

Thursday, January 8, 2026

Amarillo Civic Center — Amarillo, Texas
LIVE on Amazon Prime

The tournament then moves to the heart of Texas for two of the most technically intriguing bouts in the Grand Prix.

• Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Titus Alexander

A generational matchup. Zack Sabre Jr., the odds-on favourite thanks to his world-renowned submission mastery, clashes with West Coast prodigy Titus Alexander — a wrestler who blends speed, timing, and unpredictability. A definitive test of composure and technique under pressure.

• Timothy Thatcher vs. Drilla Moloney

Violence meets discipline. Thatcher’s suffocating grappling and ruthless efficiency collide with Drilla Moloney’s explosive striking and pressure-first offence. This is the kind of matchup that defines the tone of a tournament — no wasted motion, no quit, pure intensity.

The 2026 Middleweight Grand Prix Competitors

  • Zack Sabre Jr.
  • Santos Escobar
  • Trent Seven
  • Andrade El Idolo
  • Timothy Thatcher
  • Karl Fredericks
  • Drilla Moloney
  • Titus Alexander
The winners of Week 1 advance toward the semifinals, with the Grand Prix culminating in the NWA Middleweight Championship Match at SuperClash on February 14.

Mike Tenay Interviews Shane McMahon & Harold Meji

Promoting NWPW, WrestleKingdom & The ONE

Setting: NWPW-branded broadcast studio
Runtime: ~3–4 minutes
Distribution: Amazon Prime Sports • NWPW Digital • YouTube • X

Mike Tenay:

I’m joined by two men who stand at the forefront of New World Pro-Wrestling — Shane McMahon, representing the NWA governing body, and Harold Meji, executive authority of the IWGP. Gentlemen, NWPW launches in just days. From your perspectives, why is this the right moment?

Shane McMahon:

Because fans are ready for competition again.
NWPW is built on structure — weight classes, win-loss records, championships that mean something. WrestleKingdom isn’t just a launch event, it’s the first standard we’re setting.

Harold Meji:

From the IWGP side, this moment has been prepared carefully. WrestleKingdom at the Tokyo Dome carries responsibility. The athletes on January 3rd understand that they are not just wrestling for victory — they are establishing the identity of this company.

Mike Tenay:

Let’s talk about that stage. WrestleKingdom, January 3rd, live from the Tokyo Dome on Amazon Prime PPV. What defines this event?

Harold Meji:

Discipline. Respect. Consequence.
The IWGP Heavyweight Championship main event — Kento Miyahara versus Hirooki Goto — reflects the strongest form of professional wrestling today. There are no shortcuts in that ring.

Shane McMahon:

And what’s important is reach.
Amazon Prime allows WrestleKingdom to be experienced globally in real time. This isn’t a regional show — it’s world championship wrestling presented at the highest level.

Mike Tenay:

Two weeks later, NWPW shifts continents for The ONE, live from Las Vegas. How does that event complement WrestleKingdom?

Shane McMahon:

WrestleKingdom establishes credibility.
The ONE applies pressure.

Las Vegas is about proving you belong at this level. The NWA Heavyweight Championship, number one contender matches, rising stars — this is where momentum is created.

Harold Meji:

Different location, same principles.
Whether in Tokyo or Las Vegas, the standard does not change. That consistency is what defines NWPW.

Mike Tenay:

Final question — for fans watching who may be skeptical. Why should they invest in New World Pro-Wrestling from day one?

Shane McMahon:

Because every result matters.
There are no wasted matches here.

Harold Meji:

And because history is not being referenced — it is being made. WrestleKingdom and The ONE are the foundation.

Mike Tenay:

January 3rd — WrestleKingdom, live from the Tokyo Dome.
January 17th — The ONE, live from Las Vegas.
Both exclusively on Amazon Prime.

Gentlemen, thank you.

TalkSport UK – Interview with Thom Latimer

Program: TalkSport Drive - 17/12/25
Guest: Thom Latimer, NWA World Heavyweight Champion
Topic: The ONE PPV – January 17th, 2026

Host:

Joining us now on TalkSport is the reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Thom Latimer. Thom, you’re defending your title against Kazuchika Okada at The ONE in Las Vegas. That’s as big as it gets.

Thom Latimer:

It really is.
Look, I’ll say this straight — Kazuchika Okada is the best heavyweight of the past decade. His resume speaks for itself. But what he hasn’t faced is someone like me, fighting under NWA rules, for the most historic championship in this sport.

Host:

That NWA Heavyweight Title carries serious history.

Thom Latimer:

There’s nothing like it.
This championship lineage is greater than anywhere else in professional wrestling. You’re talking about a title that defines what a world champion actually is. To carry it right now — that’s the greatest honor of my career.

Host:

People will say Okada’s the favorite.

Thom Latimer:

They can say that.
But pressure doesn’t bother me. This isn’t about reputation — it’s about who can carry the weight of that title on the night. January 17th, Las Vegas, I walk in as champion for a reason.

Host:

Thom Latimer defending the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika Okada at The ONE, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Thom, appreciate your time.

Thom Latimer:

Always a pleasure. Thank you.

WRESTLEKINGDOM 2026 – GLOBAL ADVERT BREAKDOWN

Theme: War for the Crown
Inspiration: Game of Thrones–style epic warfare, legacy, and honor
Platforms: Global TV, Amazon Prime placements, social media, cinemas, digital billboards
Runtime: 60s (with 30s & 15s cutdowns)

CREATIVE CONCEPT OVERVIEW

WrestleKingdom is presented not as a wrestling event, but as a war for supremacy.
Each featured rivalry is framed as a battle between houses, with championships portrayed as crowns earned only through combat.

All talent appear in warrior / medieval-inspired armor, blending realism with myth — no fantasy magic, only steel, scars, and resolve.

OPENING VISUAL (0–8s)

  • Black screen.
  • The sound of wind across stone.
  • A deep drumbeat begins — slow, deliberate.
Wide aerial shot:
A snow-dusted battlefield overlooking a massive stone fortress — subtly designed to resemble the Tokyo Dome as a medieval citadel.

On-screen text (minimal):
“January 3rd.”

SEGMENT 1 – THE CROWN (8–25s)

Miyahara vs Goto

  • Kento Miyahara stands alone in full battle armor, sword resting point-down. Calm. Regal. Champion energy.
  • Hirooki Goto approaches from the opposite side, war-worn armor, banner torn, eyes locked forward.
Quick-cut flashes:
  • Miyahara tightening his gauntlets
  • Goto gripping his blade
  • Close-up eye contact
Voiceover (deep, restrained):
“Some men are born to rule. Others are forged to take it.”

They stop inches apart. No strike. Just tension.

On-screen text:
IWGP HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

SEGMENT 2 – LEGACY WAR (25–40s)

Naito vs Tanahashi

The tone shifts from royal to emotional.
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi appears as a weathered knight — scars, age, pride.
  • Tetsuya Naito enters in darker, rebellious armor — defiant, unbothered, dangerous.
They circle each other slowly.

Voiceover:
“Legacy is not given. It is defended… or destroyed.”

A quick clash tease — steel meets steel — cut before impact.

SEGMENT 3 – THE RISE (40–52s)

Saree Fujimura vs Ami Sohrei

The music softens, then rebuilds.
  • Saree stands in elegant warrior attire — disciplined, composed, champion’s posture.
  • Ami Sohrei steps forward in heavier armor — powerful, relentless, challenger energy.
Visual focus:

  • Controlled breathing
  • Hands tightening
  • Determination in silence
Voiceover:
“The future is decided in battle.”

On-screen text:
IWGP WOMEN’S BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

FINAL BUILD (52–60s)

Rapid montage:
  • All six wrestlers standing on opposing sides of a battlefield
  • Flags snapping in the wind
  • The Tokyo Dome fortress looming behind them
Music reaches its peak.

Final voiceover:
“One night. One battlefield. One kingdom.”

END CARD

WRESTLEKINGDOM
JANUARY 3RD, 2026
TOKYO DOME – LIVE ON AMAZON PRIME PPV

Fade out with the echo of steel striking.

TONE & BRAND NOTES

  • No comedy, no fantasy magic — grounded realism
  • Wrestlers portrayed as elite warriors, not characters
  • Championships = crowns
  • Conflict is respectful, intense, inevitable
This ad positions WrestleKingdom as:

  • Global
  • Prestigious
  • Sport-first
  • Mythic without being fictional

I really enjoyed the setting the scene work here, it was a nice change of pace from the usual set up and I actually kinda wish I had done a similar thing. It grounds everything and introduces personal stakes outside of the ring for this to be a success. However, as the story continued I felt like this cycle was never really broken. It just led to more set up and it felt a little bit arduous and very 'admin'. I think I wanted a bit of emotion or consequence, but it never really came.

Love hand picking a roster, its pretty fun to do and its exciting to look at and imagine the types of year long stories that could be told, but my excitement for the roster was diminished by a series of 10-20 generic updates that, whilst I understand your incremental approach, could have been one post over a few paragraphs. It killed the momentum I had when I was thinking about the roster- probably why so many BTB's have the intro, then roster, and straight into the meat. Its hard to maintain suspense if nothing is being meaningfully advanced. This could just be the effect of catching up with a lot of posts, and were I to read this as it was posted, it would probably not seem like retreading ground. Love that you have it all mapped out, but I found myself skipping a lot of the writing to just understand the general gist.

Once you got into the IP development, I actually found that technical dissection to be incredibly fascinating and it came across as very thought out and planned. Really enjoy the strategy employed there even if maybe it would be a bit early in a company's life cycle to start developing the IP outside of the ring before its been showcased in the ring as it were.

Finally, some of the matches advertised sound incredible and immediately have me excited for what might come of them. I have to repeat the point that the momentum slowed with the matches being advertised for a variety of different shows and then we move straight on to WrestleKingdom but that could be me not following things properly.

The build for the WrestleKingdom card itself was fun, although - and this may be intentional - there was a lot of AI prompt markings in the way that each segment was described that didnt land with me as effectively as full prose would have done so. Particularly in painting a picture rather than just bullet points. Particularly 'this ad positions...' reads like a cut and paste. I think some of the high level meeting reports worked with that style, but when building anticipation I find that bullet points convey a whole load of nothing emotionally. Again, could be intentional, but it pulled me out of the world you have been building.

A massive undertaking that you should be very proud of developing, and despite a few of the pacing and tonal issues, this is a really really strong and unique start to a promotion, but I still dont feel like I truly know what this company is going to be about, and when we're 100 posts in, it's always going to be asking a lot to keep that momentum going.

Hey @HaleStorm86 Appreciate the message and feedback.

It's always hard to build something that hasnt taken place yet. Your setting the scene up till present day. The story / idea is/was to show the build of a brand new organisation leading to a 'Real Life' calendar start date, which is coming quite soon. Understandable if it can become boring especially as it was clear when the first event was coming. It's hard to do 'Story' build without it becoming in itself quite tedious which is why it helped moving to a more 'Press Release' news update template. Get the info out, quickly and with a level of structure.

The roster build was the way it has been because of the long term story of promotion aquisition. TBH, I felt that the rosters werent that important. In a way, the top stars in each division are for sure, but knowing every single wrestler in each division? Not so much. In Boxing, you dont care who is in the top 20/30 in the WBC, you care about who the top 5 are probably. Same with UFC. Thats my thinking.

I think with the IP, there was something there to build on. If it had just been a completely brand new organisation with no links to other previous promotions then I dont think it would have worked. But having NJPW, a world renowned IP and having the trademarks for that to sell and offer to major brands I felt could be something possible. It's iconic.

I get that. I am still trying to find my way of how I want to show how NWPW would promote these events. Its difficult to do when they havent taken place and I do think both WrestleKingdom and The ONE would be promoted heavily at the same time if it was happening in real life. Once we get into January 2026 I think it will move to a more traditional format where the events feed into each other. I will publish them In Real Time.

TBH, The use of AI has helped things massively. I wont lie about that. It's a great tool to 'color in' what I am thinking about and get a more descriptive vision on paper. I think with the breakdown of the cards that is coming. It will likely stay in a structured template format but will try and make sure it's designed to clearly make readers understand whats going on.

Thanks, honestly. Love the feedback. 100 posts and we havent got to the first event. I hope the 100 posts have set the scene and when Jan 3rd comes around, the next chapter of this story comes into play.
