Originally Mick Foley was supposed to make an appearance but it was announced ahead of time that he couldn't and he was rescheduled for another appearance. This is part of an angle where Mick Foley had been taken out by a mystery person last spring.
Dude Love returns with his Love Shack tonight. Plus, a $20,000 bodyslam challenge as wrestlers try to slam OVW Heavyweight Champion Mt. Kadeem. And an appearance from OVW National Heavyweight Champion Doug Basham, aka Leather Daddy Doug (you're supposed to say that in your best Steve Urkel impression). Tonight at 7pm ET on YouTube.
Last night I went to OVW's live show because I wanted to see Mick Foley and there were some great matches lined up. Here's a link to the show on YouTube, but I wanted to mention a couple of points from Mick's appearance and I'll mark then in spoilers. Mick (as Dude Love) competed in a dance off against Jack Vaughn...
The stipulation was added that it was hair vs hair. Jack Vaughn gladly accepted seeing as he is bald. But it turned out that the stipulation was Dude's hair vs Jack's chest hair. Naturally Dude won, since it was fan vote afterall, and he, along with his new friends Sophia Rose, Carter Kauffman, and Ryan Von Rockit shaved Jack's hair using hair clippers (sadly they did not go all 40-Year-Old Virgin and use hot wax.
The main event saw the villainous Women's Champion J-Rod defend her title against the beloved Hollyhood Haley J with Haley's career in OVW on the line. Here's something positive Mick did at the end of the show which really shows how much of a class act he is.
J-Rod beat Haley to retain the title and end Haley's career in OVW. Afterwards, Haley gave a farewell speech with the "locker room" (the babyfaces) all coming out and surrounding the ring. Mick was one of those babyfaces at ringside. You wouldn't necessarily expect a legend like him to be a ringside for something like that but at that moment he was just one of the wrestlers supporting another wrestler.
Which is odd because maybe 10 people on this island know what OVW is and they all think of it as that place where all the TNA youngsters started coming from in 2012
I'm going to start regularly reporting on OVW since I watch it every week. It's a good quality independent promotion, I'd put it at just a step below the likes of MLW, GCW, NWA, and other top indies. OVW airs two shows per week, one being Rise which is broadcast live every Thursday at 7:00ET on YouTube and FITE and on demand. It's the promotions main 2-hour show. They have a second show on Tuesday nights at 7:00ET exclusively on YouTube called Overdrive. It's one part Sunday Night Heat and one part Prime Time Wrestling as the show is hosted from an empty arena as the hosts present exclusive pre-taped matches and highlights from the recent live shows while adding a bit of a comedic touch to the show.
Preview for tonight's Rise:
Women's Championship Tables Match Contract Signing
Take two. Last week, Women's Champion Sophia Rose and former champion J-Rod were scheduled to sign the contract for their tables match at Appalachian Armageddon but they never quite made it that far as a brawl broke out between the two prior to ever making it to the ring. This week they try things again.
Eric Surge vs Doug Basham & Crixus
Crixus recently returned from injury to help his boss, Leather Daddy Doug retain the National Heavyweight Championship against Surge. Now Surge wants revenge and is going to attempt to take it out on both men.
Dustin Jackson, Kal Herro, Lucious Lawrence vs Ashton Adonis, Anthony Catena, Brandon Barretta
The newly formed trio of up and coming starts Adonis, Catena, and Barretta look to make a name for themselves against a trio of popular top OVW stars. And don't think the fans are going to let Barretta forget about the fact that he spent three months wrestling in a turkey costume.
Plus
Jay Deniro vs Jake Painter
Star Rider vs Exodust
Anthony Toatele vs Jake Lawless
Donovan Cecil vs Jack Vaughn
Freya the Slaya vs Lovely Miss Larkan
Tonight's OVW Rise goes live on YouTube and FiteTV at 7pm ET.
OVW National Heavyweight Championship
Doug Basham (c) vs Eric Surge
Surge was on the verge of victory at March Madness until Crixus made his return and cost him the match. Tonight Surge gets another shot at Leather Daddy Doug.
Sit-Down interview with Sophia Rose and J-Rod
They successfully signed the contract last week, now 24 hours before their Tables Match at Appalachian Armageddon, J-Rod and Sophia Rose have a sit-down interview.

OVW's newest faction are making an impact as Ashton Adonis and Brandon Barretta take on the Tag Team Champions Ryan Von Rockit and Jake Lawless in a non-title match
